After Thailand stepped back from hosting Miss Earth 2011 due to the country’s heavy flooding, the pageant returned to its birth place, the Philippines, and has kicked off this past weekend. 87 candidates are participating in this year’s competition.
Yesterday they attended an environmental seminar at the Tamarraw Hall, Bulwagan Ninoy, Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center in Quezon City. In line with the theme of the International Year of the Forests, the candidates learned more about the forestry efforts all over Asia with focus on the Philippines.
The official press presentation took place on Tuesday. Based on the first photos and activities, some of the pageant’s early standouts are Misses Taiwan (wearing the sash “Chinese Taipei”), Sweden, Mexico, Belgium, Crimea, Venezuela and Ukraine.
Although 93 contestants were expected, the delegates from Costa Rica, Moldova and Uruguay were not able to make it.
Miss Earth celebrates its 10th anniversary and 11th edition this year. The pageant is being covered by local blogs and fan pages and the official Miss Earth Facebook page.

paraguay will be the miss earth 2011 as usual latinas will emerge victoriousno no one can deny their sophisticated beauty. philippines will only place in the semis unfortunately to say she has no one of the elements to take.the toughest contender to bring home the crown is perhaps miss india but i thought substance may go either with venezuela or sweden also miss taiwan will make the cut this year.good luck to each of them.

ako po ay isang pinoy who has been residing abroad for quite sometime now, i dont think miss phillipines. magpakatoo tayo mga pinoy si athena masyadong pandak at hindi naman sya gaano kaganda, kung makapasok sya sa top 16 konswelo nalang yan as host country, but no way, venzuela, columbia, paraguay, sweden, crimea, usa, canada are OK, well, for asia only japan, thailand, vietnam and Chinese taipe can possibly make the cut.

SWEDEN is my favorite to win. Followed by the gorgeous Latinas: Venezuela, Colombia, Brazil and Ecuador. Crimea, Ukraine and Czech Republic will be my dark horses.

Amazing and gorgeous candidates. It’s lovely that Philippines hosted this environment geared pageant. I visited Philippines few years ago, the country is breath- taking and the people are very hospitable and lovely. Good luck! I love Venezuela nd Ukraine.

It will be a crime if Crimea won’t place. She’s the one to beat at this moment, interestingly, Ukraine (where Crimea is a part of) is also a front runner. Japan, Belgium, India, Czech Rep., Brazil and Venezuela are good options too.

go philippines, don’t mind your bashers they are just jealous. FYI, miss universe that was held in Brazil was political motivated by placing brazil in the top 5. Australia, Costa Rica and France deserve to be in the top 5 rather than Brazil…ooopppss sorry. Miss Philippines will no doubt place this year because of fan-base and support, it’s an advantage for a host country. In order for your country to win, show your support. After all, whoever country wins, filipinos will gve their support and admiration. Good luck Miss Earth 2011
miss philippines is undeserving to place in top 16,if she makes the cut or even got one of the elements its becoz of the majority filipoino judges and order of carouselproduction they show favoritism its so unfortunate to other deserving ladies
Hold your horses, honey. Miss Earth’s format is totally different from Miss Universe, World and International. This pageant gives emphasis with interviews and tons of QandA’s, this girl is very eloquent and smart, so I could see her snatching a semi-finals slot, that’s how far she could go though
