GB Editor’s note: We are getting tons of messages criticizing the Miss Earth contest and the Philippines candidate. All these messages IP’s originate in the Philippines. Some filipino citizens are bashing their own competition in here, to then see if we approve said messages and put the blame of us. This is not a place for insults or profanity. There are other beauty pageant forums who cherish and love offenses. Please go somewhere else if you are that kind of people. Thank you

The opening number was fantastic! The girls enjoy a lot in their production… The hosts are excellent. The pacing on how they speak was okay (not to mention they are both stunning). Following Miss Earth for 11 years, I can say that this year’s batch of marvelous women with substance is the most competitive in history. The top 16 were amazing ladies EXCEPT for Miss Philippines. She probably has the substance but there are more and far far better contenders than her. How could they afford to miss Czech Republic, Switzerland, India, Puerto Rico, Colombia, Panama and other wonderful ladies. I congratulate Carousel Production for a job well done even if there are time constraints but the inclusion of Miss Philippines in Top 16 and going through to Top 4 is a ridiculous thing. Beauty and substance do not lie. Ecuador deserves the crown. Brazil’s placement is justifiable also. But for the Philippines, I hope you we are more objective enough. Among the finalists, Ecuador & Zimbabwe have the kind of energy we need in the pageant. Crimea and Slovenia’s radiance is mesmerizing. Overall, this year’s edition of Miss Earth is excellent!

I WAS JUST LIKE WATCHING FORMER PRESIDENT GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO COMPETING LAST SAT.THROUGH ATHENA. MISS MEXICO DESERVED TO BE IN THE TOP 4, SHE WAS THE MOST STUNNING ON THE EVENING GOWN COMPETITION.

  • kulet

It is so shameful to know that of all people, Filipinos are mostly the ones degrading, bashing, and pulling down our own representative who brought honor and pride to the country..Miss Imperial was chosen as Miss Earth Water because she deserved it, and the final judges (who are not all Filipinos)found her deserving, get it? If you were in her shoes, how would you feel? ..Why can’t we just be proud of our representative? It only shows that many Filipinos are ignorant, rude, and CRAB MENTALITY lives on..the below-the-belt comments are not “objective” anymore!!! Are these traits the ones we wanna engrave and show to the world?!? GROW UP PEOPLE!! Those “Filipino CRABS put our country to shame!!! tsk tsk tsk!!

    • redon

NO. It is not “crab mentality” to disagree about Athena’s placement in top 4. People should be free to disagree. The Philippines is still a democracy. You should NOT expect people to support a candidate blindly just because you happen to share the same nationality. And it is embarrassing when Filipinos place their own ahead of everybody else simply because they are Filipino. That would be discrimination against the other candidates for being not Filipino. I would rather that Filipinos show to the world that they are non-discriminatory and that they can judge all candidates fairly, without bias, regardless of the candidates’ race or nationality, and give honor to the candidates who truly deserve it — whether they are Filipino or not. That would be the more civilized behavior. And not point an accusing finger at people and call them “crabs” just because they express a different opinion!

      • kulet

well, will you call below-the-belt comments and ruthlessness as “non-discriminatory” and “fair judging”?! There is a big difference between being “objective” and “being barbaric” which is very apparent right now in most forums and mostly started by Filipinos themselves! Now that’s what’s CRAB MENTALITY is all about..I understand that there will be differences with opinions but profanity and insults towards another person, moreover in public forums, show disrespect, and CRABS are indeed a disgrace to our country..what is more shameful is that foreigners observe it as well..as I’ve said before, GROW UP PEOPLE!!

  • andre

In its 11-year history, the Philippine organizers have given its own candidate 9 semifinalist slots. That’s 80% of the time. What other country has this high a batting average in any international pageant? What does this tell you about Miss Earth’s credibility, now and for the future? While Athena is very pretty and very smart, there were other candidates who were just as smart and frankly, more stunning who others think should have placed higher (examples: India, Mexico, Venezuela, etc.). This isn’t about “crab mentality” — it’s about being objective. The entire Philippines rejoiced when Venus and Shamcey placed in the top 5 at Miss Universe. However, the reaction isn’t quite the same with Athena. The fact that there’s a lot of controversy and questions about Athena placing third in a pageant held by her own country speaks for itself. To be on the defensive about your own placement is not a comfortable place to be in. But Athena gave it her best, and regardless of what her placement is, or should have been, she has my sincere congratulations.

  • Leonah Kris

to all Filipinos, stop this foolishness, shame on you? im so proud to all of our candidate from miss universe, miss world, miss international, and lastly miss earth. stop it please. im so ashamed of all of those pinoys whos doing this mess

    • redon

People have a right to express their opinions even if they don’t happen to agree with yours. It’s not foolishness. It’s freedom of speech and freedom of expression. Filipinos should be encouraged to speak their minds even if the ideas they express are different from yours! So they disagree with the judges’ results — it does not mean they don’t “support” the Philippines’ candidate. They are simply saying that there were other candidates who deserved to be in the top 4. That is true non-discrimination because they are not favoring any candidate based solely on their race or national origin, but simply judging the candidates based on the qualitative standards of the beauty pageant.

  • i like athena and im really impressed with how she is able to handle herself well..she represented the Philippines with much grace, beauty and intelligence…it wasn’t her fault she made it that far…why not go to the judges and throw your wrath against them instead of bashing a young lady who just want to represent the Philippines…most of us filipinos are complaining about being discriminated and yet we even practiced it within our own country and our own countrymen.

    • redon

So what you’re saying is that we should put Filipino candidates ahead of others even if they don’t deserve it, just because they are Filipino? Then that’s discrimination against the other candidates because they are not Filipino. I am not bashing Athena. I am criticizing the judges panel for favoritism which is so obvious even to the candidates themselves.

Non-discrimination is about treating people equally, regardless of their race or national origin. In Miss Earth 2011, that did not happen because the Filipino pageant organizers placed their candidate ahead of others because she is Filipino even though there were obviously more deserving candidates (Venezuela, India, Mexico, Czech Republic, etc.).

  • Hector

Not impress with the result! I have no problem with the winner & other top 4. But it’s very fishy when Miss Philippines enter the top 4! Czech Rep & India exclude from top16??

  • Marie Jones

Again, Global Beauties ranked Miss Philippines 11th placed while Ecuador was ranked 17th placed before the final night. What are you guys still yapping about? Miss Philippines tho tad short but she has sexy body and pretty face. Ecuador has gorgeous face but on a thicker side of body. Every pageant has different criteria. Don’t we all wonder why Miss World chooses this girl over someone else? In Miss Universe 2011, we all know Miss Angola was gorgeous but we also notice odd how she walked. You think she’d win if it was held in diff. continent or country? let alone Miss Brazil’s inclusion in top 5? Don’t get me wrong. Miss Brazil 2011 is deserving but it could also be applied to every girl in the pageant. I just wish that more new countries to get recognized & not the same country over and over again. I asked a Korean girl the other month if she watched Miss Universe 2011 she said “no”. I said, “why”? She said, ” coz same country year after year.

  • CHARLES

IS THIS A DANCE/TALENT CONTEST OR A BEAUTY CONTEST? NEXT TIME THEY ( CH2/CAROUSEL) SHOULD MAKE THE CANDIDATES EAT FIRE….WHAT THE HELL!!!!! ? AERIAL STUNTS OF BEAUTY CANDIDATES…WEIRD!!!! NO CLASS AT ALL!!!

  • philippines won becoz most of the judges has a filipino origin. dismayed for miss venezuela tnterpreter.

  • Arsenal

One thing not seen in the livestream was when the girls were all routing for Miss Brazil…

I just realized now that Miss Venezuela’s interpreter did quite well… she just had too much to say that went over the time limit…

  • athan

The shadow show is once of the best production numbers I have ever seen in any beauty pageant in all of history. At par with Oscar numbers. The winners are great particualrly Ecuador

  • Ien

    Told ya ppl..its a joke

    • redon

The results of Miss Earth 2011 reminded me of my school principal who insisted on giving her own grandchild valedictorian honors even though there were other kids in the same class with much better grades :(

  • laughter

look at the picture???? its reminds me if gloria macapagal and the three queens…..just look! see???

    • andre

Yep. The photo says it all. Why do people scream “crab mentality” just because we disagree with the results! People who have expressed their opinion that more deserving candidates should have made it to the top 4 are criticizing the results, not Athena per se. Like a lot of people, I think Mexico, India and the Czech Republic should have made it to the top 4. This is about being objective and not succumbing to favoritism.

  • laughter

its not the crab mentality but i think its how you pick your winner to represent your country. you have the right to agree or disagree, in this case most people are not happy with the representative to miss earth! they supported the universe shamcey becoz of her amazing beauty and also miss internationa diane and world gwen who are high class/ caliber candidate….if u compare these girls including miss earth philippines,,,you can see the difference………..quality!

  • ngek chenes

Im a Filipino, I hate our candidate! siopao face :-P

  • bozo

The event production is still very very low grade tacky and cheap, and worse this year!!

    • koala takei

correct… specially the Presscon-Swimsuit and the National Costume competition…. the worst I’ve ever seen in a pageant. Next year you will a better MISS EARTH 2012 in Vietnam!

  • Leonardo Guimarães

The winner looks filipo. I can not believe it. In my opinion, it was totally wrong the results should be in reverse order.

  • Paul81

I absolutely love Olga!!! What a wonderful win!!!:)

  • CHing TANG

The results is results finished ended with fair judging..I also believed that there are things that cant answered the questions why she wins and why shes in top 4? its just a luck..a luck that mystery..yet the final 4 were deserving..bravo

  • arpit vijayvergia

    nicole looks absolutely stunning….

  • arc

I watched the pageant live yesterday. I think that it is understandable that the preliminary judges, mostly Filipinos, put her in the semi-finals. As much as I don’t want her in the top 4, because there are more deserving girls, but the judges in the finals are mostly foreigners and yet they liked Atheena. The crowd was routing for the hometown girl from start to finish. Maybe it helped. Ecuador also had a strong cheer from her family/friends there. The Filipinos decided to cheer Olga when she greeted the Filipinos before she answered the final question.

    • koala takei

There’s only 1 Filipino as judge I owuld like to reitreate. And most of them were CHINESE…. Well, MISS CHINESE TAIPEI won the Miss Photogenic award…. and no pageant fan ever complained. And though the judges are also mostly Caucasian men…. it’s nice to see Miss Zimbabwe in the top 8…. and I am glad nobody complained about her reaching the top 8.

      • divalicious

for the first time, a comment that presents all the facts so it would straighten out all those who comment based on feelings (which is not wrong but definitely sends negative vibes among pageant lovers). Ms Philippines just proved everyone that even if she’s not “pageant-worthy” (as some critics might say) she has proven that with being able to give good answers can put you on the finals. Ms Ecuador doesn’t look anything Asian, but it helped that she knew how to charm a crowd rooting for the hometown competitor. Despite the “hurried” look of this year’s Miss Earth, it’s still worth watching as one of the four major pageants.

As to the comments that since Miss Earth is Philippine-based and probably giving preferential treatment to its country’s representatives to the global pageant, then we could probably say that the organizers of Miss Universe are also guilty of the same acts.

Filipinos have a right to comment, that’s right, and we think we are a highly opinionated people. But the choice of words some of those “commentators” make speak of their own ignorance, tendency to answer based on feelings, and failure to base their criticisms on keen observations. Just like its President and all its supporters who rely on sheer demagoguery and all that noise. Peace.

  • Aira

Just watched the telecast on StarWorld and for whatever it’s worth, I was quite impressed by the panel of very distinguished judges. I also enjoyed watching the opening dance number. Love the energy of the girls! Congratulations to Ecuador!

  • eerjoy

we are just telling the truth. actually, we are just being objective. if rp delegate is deserving of the placement, then we will rejoice and shout for joy but this one… uh! maybe top 16 would be good enough but not final 4 and a runner up.

  • witot

There will always be people who are against the result of each beauty pageant.. But no matter what, I still believe with the result…

  • JENNIFER

honestly Ecuador looks like a philipine girl.. she is very exotic..and your contestant philipinos is not so beautiful to be in the top four…but you knoe you guys are getting hot on beauty pageants..

    • Divalicious

I second your opinion. Miss Ecuador really looks like a Filipino. Put away the sash and train her some Tagalog and she can pass as a real Filipino woman without people being able to guess her Ecuadorian root. I wonder if that’s one of the reasons she won.

  • Fabricio

Love these girls !!!! nice top 16, nice top 8, nice top 4, nice contest : )

  • atina

Its not about being discriminating and utak talangka.. We have lots of Pinoy like Manny, Charice, even Shamcey, Dianne and Gwen which we are really proud of.. in some instances we really have candidates who does not deserve to win,,(for OBVIOUS REASON lot of candidates like Czech Rep..many to mention which are way way better than her!) do we have to be proud of that?? Its not about being shameful,, THERE ARE THINGS WHICH ARE WORTH TO BE PROUD OF,, AND THINGS WHICH ARE NOT! reality sucks..

    • Rocco GioFranco

Good for you for writing that. I do believe in what you wrote. I myself, happen to be not a big fan of Miss Philippines Earth. She is full of baby fats… and I am in disbelief, people still think she is one of the top 4. Definitely not a top notch candidate… there are a lot better and worthy of the top 4 slot… but not her.

    • haroldgerm

whether we agree to the results or not…i guess athena still deserves some respect…she just did her part…the decision was really all up to the judges…

  • MAHARLIKA

SHAME ON US FILIPINOS! WE ARE DISCRIMINATING OUR CANDIDATE FOR BEING IN THE TOP 4! AND THE MISS EARTH PAGEANT WHICH IS OUR VERY OWN CONTRIBUTION TO THE WORLD OF BEAUTY PAGEANTS! AGAIN, THE CRAB MENTALITY AMONG US FILIPINOS ARE ALREADY A TRAIT AMONG US ARE FOREVER IMBEIBED ON US! SHAME ON US!!!..WE ARE A COUNTRY OF “DAMNED IF YOU DO..DAMNED IF YOU DON’T”! WE ARE NEVER SATISFIED! IF WE LOOSE, WE BLAME THE CONTESTANT AND ORGANIZERS OF FRAUD! IF WE WIN, WE STILL CRITICIZE ! BETTER NOT SEND BEAUTY DELEGATES TO ALL THE PAGEANT SO WE WILL NOT BE SHAMEFULL LIKE THIS! LET US BE HAPPY FOR WHAT OUR BEAUTY CONTESTANTS HAVE BEEN WINNING THIS YEAR! GOD BLESS THE PHILIPPINES!
