We are celebrating the accomplishment of Miss World 1993 Lisa Hanna why dwell on the past. Lisa was an Intelligent winner. Very classy. Loved her.

im afraid that there will no Miss Philippines in the Final 5 this Miss universe,,it simply because the miss universe will be held IN SUn city ,south africa… and mark my word Guys and gays…..the Final final will be

    miss Uk or England
    Miss south Africa
    Miss jamaica
    miss scottland or ireland
    miss france

this countries is former colonizer or related to the creation of country or related to thier history….

Congratulations to Lisa Hanna. I wish Jamaica well with this lovely appointment. And I do not like reading comments about which Filipinos deserved to win or not over here. It is simply classless, and does not reflect vibrant Filipino character.
Is there a conspiracy to frame Filipino pageant fans? I wonder.

  • dilip indian

she is so pretty even now.yet another jewel in the crown of former mw winners.all mw are absolutely beautiful facially and their acheivements fast surpast that of any mu

    • Divalicious

Agree. I still like Miss Universe but have to admit that the MW winners/titleholders have better track record and achievements than MU winners will ever be.

  • congratulations! lisa hannah! you deserved it! i remember you when we talked about miss world 1993 where our very own representatives from the philippines placed 3rd..

  • elPropio

Ok, this is a post about a former MW winner who has become an important minister in her own country and we should be talking about her achievements. The MW organisation promotes the advancement of women beyond the competition. However there are some on this thread that want to make this about someone who didn’t win almost 40 years ago, to them I say, get a life, move on. No one cares about that, it is unimportant. Let’s celebrate the fact that Lisa Hanna is now working hard for her country and some of that came from her experience in this competition.

uck and congratulations to a lovely lady.that year the top 3 were all stunning (and that doesn’t often happen). any one of them could have taken the crown. Lisa was the judges choice and that really is the end of the conversation. she obviously has a lot about her as her present achievments show. good luck and congratulations to a lovely lady

  • Gaby

Her current look reminds me of Lebanese singer Najwa Karam…very beautiful…

  • PGNT

Congratulations Lisa !!! Wow another Beauty Queen success in politic

  • Pilita

Sourgraping Filipinos. I am a Filipino also but what’s all these comments about Ruffa not winning over Liza Hanna etc. etc.

After all Liza deserved every inch of the crown. Look what’s happening to Ruffa? She has been involved in many scandals and her feisty mother has been accused of estafa, attempted homicide, child abuse etc. etc.

Uhm….South Afirca was never an English dominion.. It is DUTCH, not English.

Great Britain took over the Cape of Good Hope area in 1795, to prevent it from falling under control of the French First Republic, which had invaded the Dutch Republic. Given its standing interests in Australia and India, Great Britain wanted to use Cape Town as an interim port for its merchants’ long voyages. The British returned Cape Town to the Dutch Batavian Republic in 1803, the Dutch East India Company having effectively gone bankrupt by 1795.

The British finally annexed the Cape Colony in 1806 and continued the frontier wars against the Xhosa; the British pushed the eastern frontier through a line of forts established along the Fish River. They consolidated the territory by encouraging British settlement. Due to pressure of abolitionist societies in Britain, the British parliament stopped its global slave trade with the passage of the Slave Trade Act 1807 and then abolished slavery in all its colonies with the Slavery Abolition Act 1833.

Lisa was the clear winner that year , nice nice face and super nice , maybe the Philippine girl didn’t win because she didn’t shave her moustache that morning !!

  • mico

Again, we all have our biases. We all have our own opinions, based on our standards, on who was able to give out the best answer/performance in 1993.

The news posted is about Lisa. And I think, should she be reading this right now, it would be tragically thought that what happened almost 2 decades ago could be something that should be a matter of debate up until this very moment.

I think Lisa deserves our congratulations.

As a supporter of major and minor beauty contests, Mabuhay ka Lisa.

FYI. I may have rooted for Ruffa in 1993, but then again, I was not a judge. I was not given the honor of choosing.

  • XYZ

How did I know that this post about what Lisa Hanna is up to these days would have comments whining about the Philippines not winning Miss World 1993?

It was 19 years ago, it’s time to get over it. The Philippines can’t win everything. At any rate, you have Miss Earth now for your girls to make the cut (and sometimes win).

    • Divalicious

I know right??? It’s amazing how some crazy Filipino fans all of a sudden can shift the focus of this article from Lisa Hanna to their beauty queens. I mean, this article is about Lisa Hanna and her achievements. Why are we even discussing about Miss Philippines here???? If they want to talk about their beauty queens, they should do it at the right time in the right article. Unfortunately, this is NOT one of those times/articles.

  • witot

I am a Filipino and was very disappointed in 1993 Miss World result.. however, we need to accept the choice of the judges be it fair or not… anyway, as Ruffa said then, beauty is in the eye of the beholder… Look at 2011, miss ruais won as 1st runner up despite her not so stunning look… but im very proud of her….

  • Liso Hanno

CONGRATULATIONS AND MY BEST WISHES OF GOOD JOB for her!!!

  • Suzannah

    Luke,

I have just watched on you tube the video of MW 1993 and the final questions. I do not think Philippines gave best answer, but that is my opinion. I don’t think Croatia or Venezeula gave particularly good answers but I liked their out fits and I would have placed them 1st and 2nd. Just because you think some contestant is the best someone else won’t. You can’t expect Philippines to win every thing. I am English but I don’t expect Miss England to win all the time. Different people have different opinions, and thank goodness it would be a dull world if we all liked the same or did the same. Move on and just celebrate the winners who ever they are.

    • Max

God you are so right , did u see that Miss Phillipines quote her answer from a book and she was not toned at all she was a little bit fat

  • Oswald Rangi

My fellow Commenter we have to stop to criticize an nonsense issues we need to go proper for the what news says.We have to congrats Lisa Hanna for her effort and the point she reach. This things of nationality always don have a good impact at all.So we better understand the news before to comment.

Yes indeed, remembering the pageant that time.. Ms Philippines wowed the whole world, pretty, sexy and classic beauty even now,.. watch the youtube the final questions asked and judge yourselves!

  • dyosa

I vividly remember the Miss World pageant in 1993. As far as beauty is concerned, Miss Philippines is the prettiest among the three and gave a fabulous answer, however, Miss Jamaica was very charming at the time and the pageant happened in South Africa. IMHO, Politics was indeed a factor. Jamaica has been a British colony from 1655 until August of 1962 and same thing with South Africa which is also another British colony. We all know that pageants like Miss World is a business entity and if I were Eric or Julia Morley (British citizens) and I have to crown the next Miss World, I’d choose the countries where I can do business with like Jamaica and South Africa (British Colonies) where I feel ‘at home’. Peace.

  • miko

Yes because of politics.. Sharmaine “Ruffa” Gutierrez of the Philippines that time was the sure winner.. a lost to Miss World Irganization. Not jamaica and not South Africa. She is an Asian goddess. If Miss Global Beauties was awarded that year.. she’s sure the bet! Even beautiful than Miss Universe and International 1993.

    • pageantfrk

Miss Croatia was the prettiest of all however gave the worst interview, Philippines placement was justified. Jamaica and South Africa’s response was undoubtedly better and they were in better shape. Philippines just had a cute face with an average at best response.

  • SarahM

Way back in Miss World 1993, There is been a politics in this pageant.

If you watch the show that time, Miss Philippines answered the question very well and impressed the audience by giving her a warm applause and cheers.

Miss philippines stood out that time but the judges dont give her the crown because of bad publicity sorrounds to her. instead they give it miss jamaica.

  • Stephanie

Lisa is stunning, someday she will be Prime Minister I think.

  • Ian

Petty comment…..I think YOU need to move on.

  • Winwward Dale

We love Lisa Hanna Miss World 1993 but she would be a better government minister if she were a member of the Jamaica Labor Party (JLP)

  • tom

I don’t agree. For me Lisa was a perfect deserved winner of 1993.

  • luke

miss Philippines is the real winner if you look again the contest…back in 1993…but miss world organization they dont have a plan to crown miss philippines even in the future because of what happen during Evangiline pascual time…they feel very very bad until now…move on Miss morley

    • Ian

Petty comment….I think YOU need to move on. Miss Phillippines dont deserve to win everything !

    • Kevin

Luke, what happen during the time of Evangeline Pascual, I like Philippines to win, though I live here in Europe.

      • witot

When Miss USA Marjorie Wallace was stripped off the crown, Miss Philippines refused to take over as Evangeline Pascual is already very busy in the Philippines.. 1973 was the year where there is no Miss World. However, Miss World Organizer retained Ms USA as the winner (in their list of Miss World Winners)

      • Anto

Evangeline Pascual was supposed to be the winner of miss world 1973 but the final score was tied with miss USA, the tie had to be breaked and the american judges favored USA (politics),after some months miss USA was fired from the job, rumors has it that Mr and Mrs Morley had no plans of offering the crown to any of the runners-up,due to pressure they asked Evangeline as 1st runner up to take the crown and she refused! since then it’s been told that MWO got so irked about it that they swear not to crown(title) any Filipinas in this pageant ever, even if judges liked her to win Mrs.Morley still has the final say.

        • Ed

Doesn’t make sense whatsoever that something that happened 40 years ago would have any bearing today. in any case, Philippines was 1st runner-up in 2011, and even with that, fans are STILL not happy, God knows why.

        • jules

yes, evangeline pascual was the real winner that time but the Ms. World Organization cant take it that their winner will becoming from exactly the same country as their rival miss universe organization. During that same year 1973, the Miss Universe title went to Margarita Moran from the Philippines and the american judges were advice by the Miss World organization to break the tie by favoring Usa than philippines as they dont want to be just a copycat of Miss Universe…. The Philippines would have been the first country to bag the Miss Universe and Ms. World Crown on the same year… that is shocking and very unlikely during those time….times have changed of course, 8 years after,in 1981 Venezuela had won the Ms. Universe and the Ms. World title , making them the first country to do that, followed by India in 1994..
that is just the real reason behind that…

    • Rick

nakakaawa ka ineng… pathetic comment! mabuti pa, maglaba ka nalang, may kabuluhan pa yan kesa sa sinulat mo. lol

    • Soraya

What a silly, silly remark to make, perhaps it is time for Filipinos to stop barking on about their own beauties winning or not winning a major pageant and learn to appreciate reality. Miss Jamaica was crowned Miss World 1993. Fullstop. Miss Philippines was not crowned Miss World. Fullstop!!!! Apparently Miss Nigeria was judged to have won Miss World 1995, judging by the way the Miss World Organisation consulted the UN first before deciding it would be better for her to withdraw but are Nigerians still going on about this?? Heck no, so perhaps, Luke, you should take a leaf from them and move on too….
