Eighty finalists tried their luck at the finals of the largest beauty contest in Brazil: Garota Verão, or Summer Girl, a summer tradition held at Capão da Canoa beach for the last 30 years. Thousands of young women competed in regional preliminaries across the state of Rio Grande do Sul hoping to reach the final stage of competition.
The winner was Marceli Almeida, from Palmares do Sul, 18. The 1st runner-up was Edinéia Vargas, 18, from Rolante, and the 2nd runner-up was Andressa Correa, 28, from Santa Maria.
The new Garota Verão won a brand new car, and signed a 1-year-contract with RBS TV. The event was telecast live to the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
As the contest turns 30, it has among its winners names such as Rafaela Zanella, Miss Universe Brazil 2006 and Miss Universe’s quarter-finalist, and Ana Paula Quinot, a former Miss Earth Brazil.
Congratulations to the winner!
