Dimitri Kosvogianis, new franchise holder for Jamaica wants to bring the pageant to the island
Dimitri Kosvogianis, hotel manager and new franchise holder of Miss Universe in Jamaica, is planning on bringing the international competition to the Caribbean island in 2013.
“My passion is to place Jamaica at the forefront of the tourism market in this side of the world, and having such an event in Jamaica would greatly assist our efforts here,” said Kosvogianis during the press presentation of the 17 contestants taking part in the Miss Universe Jamaica 2012 competition.
Kosgiovanis presented the proposal to the Miss Universe Organization in New York, which is very interested in hosting the pageant in Jamaica. He also added that the 2012 competition will take place in South Africa; this has not been confirmed by the MUO as of this date.
The 2013 contest was supposed to be held in Panama, but local tourism authorities withdrew the proposal after analyzing the high costs of organizing the event.

The Miss Universe Jamaica contest will take place in June.

I don’t think it was supposed to be held in panama … I live in the Dominican republic and there was some resent news that it was going to be here but the government turn it down because they don’t have enoungh budget. I hope it’s in Jamaica because I really really want to go! Since its so close to the Dominican republic I’m praying my mom would let me go.
Panama was interested but they withdrew their proposal in September 2012, a mere 3 days after the Miss Universe 2011 finals.
I hope Miss Universe 2013 is held in Jamaica. I also hope Kosvogianis is right about South Africa hosting this year’s pageant.

If money is not an option for sure there will be more than 140 countries participating in Miss Universe.

WHy are franchise fees for MU so darn high??..is it 10,000 USD, or 100,000 USD??..and why is cost to host MU so high?? USD 5 Million according to this news article? Thats absurd!!. Trump & the MU Org is making a killing; These costs are ridiculous. Those Jamaican girls look hot, I like the tall miss on the far left corner.
It is a business. This is not a game, it is a franchise with a 61-year old history. To represent you need to pay to ensure a good participation.. and an event televised live to an audience of millions has high quality and production costs.
that’s why the pageant has 90 participating countries coz of high franchise fee compared to other pageants….100 thousand dollars baby wow….what can you expect from the greatest pageant in the planet!!!!!!!
