TV legend and former Miss Universe presenter Dick Clark dies at 82

Dick and Miss Netherlands Universe 1991

Venerated TV producer and host of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” Dick Clark has passed away, CNN has confirmed earlier today. He was 82.

According to Clark’s publicist, the icon passed away Wednesday morning following a massive heart attack. “Clark, 82, had entered St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica last night for an outpatient procedure,” a statement says. “Attempts to resuscitate were unsuccessful. He is survived by his wife Kari and his three children, RAC, Duane and Cindy.”

In 2004, Clark suffered a stroke, causing him to step back from his duties as host of “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” which he also produced.

Known as “America’s teenager” because of his longtime hosting duties with the dance show “American Bandstand,” Clark also hosted numerous other television favorites including “$25,000 Pyramid” and “TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes.”

He hosted the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants in the early 1990′s.

At the 1993 Miss Universe Pageant in Mexico City, you can tell that Dick Clark was very nervous when the Mexican audience began to boo and scream at Miss USA 1993 Kenya Moore.

They were also showering their hate on Dick himself; listen to the reaction as he walks out to center stage right before he introduces the top 10 in the swimsuit competition.

RIP Dick. I enjoyed your hosting of Pyramid, New Year’s Eve and the bloopers show as well.

Eternal rest, grant unto them O Lord him
and let perpetual light shine upon them him.

May they rest in peace (Amen)

May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed,
through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
    Amen.

Among Anglicans and Episcopalians, one usual rendering is the following:

Rest eternal grant to them him, O Lord,
and let light perpetual shine upon them him. Amen.

Hi Elijah! The 1997 Miss Universe host was George Hamilton and not Dick Clark.

A truly icon as a host in Miss Universe, never forget his laughs when Brooke answer her final questions and his enthusiasm calling the semifinalist especially in 1997 Miss Puerto Rico Ana Rosa Brito

Dick hosted Miss Universe 1990, 1991,1992 & 1993. So he never had an encounted with Brooke Lee.

What I remember is Dick’s chat with Miss Netherlands 1991 Pauline Huizinga about “Madonna’s bra” and his error on letting Miss Venezuela 1992 Milka Chulina after her Judge’s Interview Segment during the Top 6 segment of Miss Universe 1993, despite being un-scored by the judges, thereby, letting Dick pull over Milka again on the markings for her to be scored by the judges. Dick said: “Mi error! I got lost by the translation!”

Dick’s voice is indeed distinct and memorable!

Elijah, you got the wrong guy. That was George Hamilton. Dick hosted the Miss USA and MIss Universe in 1990-93 and Miss USA 1989.
