Penda Ly, a 21-year old student of marketing from Dakar, was crowned Miss Senegal 2012 during an event held at the King Pahd Palace.
Ly stands 175 cm tall and received, among other prizes, the right to represent Senegal at the Miss ECOWAS competition,
The 1st runner-up was Marieme Thiam (19) and the 2nd runner-up was Ndeye Marie Diaw.
Miss Universe Leila Lopes will visit Senegal as part of a 5-country African tour to take place in June.
The winner of Miss Senegal used to compete in the Japan-based Miss International beauty pageant during the 1990′s.
How I wish that black beauties will make it in MU 2012. . I guess people are already tired of seeing blonde beauties. Black and Asian beauties are excelling in the pageant, and I am just wondering why it is seldom for them to belong in the finals always. . Perhaps, the MU organizer should increase the number of judges from Africa and Asian countries, to level the playing fields. . The more judges from America and Europe would there be, the more finalists would come from those areas too. . .
The last blonde Miss Universe was Jennifer Hawkins and the last one before her was way back in 1989 with Angela Visser, so blondes are not exactly dominating the Miss Universe pageants in recent years, as opposed to the delegates from Latin America.
Guapa!
welcome back Senegal
Welcome back Senegal.
Miss Senegal Universe Thioro Thiam was a big big hit in Miss Universe 1974 held in Manila. She wore age old African braids which was stunning. She was one of the crowd favourites along with another favorite black beauty iss Surinam. However both failed to make the semi final cut. MU1974 was one of the prettiest batch ever in Miss Universe history. The eventual winner, Amparo Munoz was perhaps the prettiest Miss Universe ever and her runner ups were all beautiful.
Lots of beautiful African women this year… I’m just hoping there won’t be a second blackout!
I hope she makes the cut. Go Africa!
Amazing, you go girl!
Lovely but not for MU
gorgeous. She will place top 5
she’s absolutely beautiful.
great. I hope she actually participates
¡Cuanta dicha! Bienvenida de nuevo Senegal al Miss Universo…tienen una buena representante….¡Guapa!
STUNNING welcome back Senegal, you’ve been sorly missed these past 25 yrs
the reason qhy Leilas lopes had a major impact is because she is the winner of a national pageant (Miss Angola) meanwhile the election of Mpule was very underground ( Miss Botswana Universe is a small pageant)
Actually, Mpule won Botswana’s major crown. She was Miss Botswana 1997 and went on to the Miss World competition in Seychelles, but was unplaced. The first Miss Universe Botswana competition took place in 2000.
A very warm welcome back Senegal, a rather pretty lady.
For me, unless she is really someone intelligent like Lara Dutta, she has no chances of getting placement : ) Just my opinion : )
Shut up!
Thank you Veevee for telling geographer to shut up- he/she is talking based on the photos alone! Good luck to Senegal and all the other African candidates (both black and white) in Miss Universe 2012- I will be rooting for Africa, even if she is from Egypt!
so your saying lara dutta only won miss universe because she was intelligent, she is one of the most beautiful woman ever crowned miss universe so yea shut up!!
Somehow I got the impression that Leila Lopes’ victory had more of an impact on the African continent than Mpule Kwelegobe; even though Mpule have the distinction of the being the first Black African to win a major pageant.
She’s gorgeous!!
She looks pretty
Welcome back, Senegal! The African continent is well represented in MU20121
