The government of the Dominican Republic has declined Miss Universe’s proposal to host the pageant in the Caribbean country this year, according to sources terra.com and eldeber.com.bo. Allegedly, MUO had asked for USD 16 million, which the Dominican government saw as an absurd amount of money.
A few days ago, Magaly Febles, the Dominican national director for Miss Universe, told the press that the Dominican Republic would host the Miss Universe pageant in December. Now such information has been denied.
Miss Universe has been struggling to find a venue for this year’s pageant. For the first time in history, the pageant had to be moved to December. There were also talks about South Africa hosting Miss Universe this year, but negotiations failed.
Days ago, Puerto Rican newspaper El Vocero had published a similar article in which it stated the pageant could go back to The Bahamas. It also might end up in Vegas again!
The Miss Universe Organization has not commented on this matter.

But if 16 millions of dollars is a lot of money for countries , how can vegas host it? i mean everybody is saying that it will be in vegas for sur , but the host city will also have to pay 16 millions of dollars right? so why vegas can , and not other countries , vegas is not the richest of them all… so i don’t really understand why vegas

Why??? Why some cities have to pay hosting fee and vegas not? it’s not logical!! so it means they can host the pageant without paying anything so the pageant doesn’t cost anything????

–and make in a safe and friendly country–were all can go and have a blast! The street parades such as in 204 in Ecuador and back in he 50s in Long Beach and 60s in Miami looked awesome in pics. They need to do event in places were public is friendly and all attending can safely participate. No matter if Vegas , Bahamas or anywhere in the world. Miami and Long Beach hosted for ages and that gave great prominence to contest–yep,same on ewe love so much. Let us be constructive with ideas. Personally I think the prize should be $500,000 cash + prizes and that would raise level of BEAUTIFUL participants. I read in 1984 Penthouse magazine picked a stripper as its international PET of TH YEAR— a one time contest as she ended up being a stripper and with a messy background —but she won $1million in cash!!! And she was TRULY stunning from the pics i have found!!! Granted, today Its not the same world after all — but $16 million tag for a country–NOT!

It’s really absurd to ask $16 million from the host country. . It should be the organizer who should shoulder the cost, and not the other way around. Donald Trump has money and he has exploited the MUO for his advantage, so there is no reason for him not to spend for activities that he is gaining money out of it after all.
I now have tons of respect for the Govt. of the Dominican Republic. Bravi!

Donald Trump over-rated his own pageant. Miss Universe is great, but Trump is too greedy and will eventually bring down the pageant if he continues his way.
Miss World is easily going to succeed Miss Universe. Miss World has host countries sometimes years in advance and Miss Universe (and Miss USA) have trouble finding venues for even the year of the competition. MUO is greedy and countries know that amount of money won’t have any real returns. If Trump is such a great businessman, then why is this happening? He should be fired. He brings no class to the MUO.
It just adds excitement as to where it will be held. Be it in Dominican Republic, South Africa… or back in Vegas, I bet you will still watch it, right?
Those news may be fake. I have not seen any newspaper nor tv shows here in the Dominican Republic talking about it.
No outlets have said if its true or if its false. At the moment it is all up in the air.

I think that Miss Universe lost fame and prestige since the failed, poor and controversial show when Stefania Fernandez from Venezuela won in Bahamas. The show semms decadent and old. It´s only a business of Donald Trump for promote his others business; so he can use his international hotels for hosting this beauty contest.
A lot of countries think that MUO prefers latinoamerican contestants and it doesn´nt like asian nd european contestant because Latinoamerican is the first market of USA and MUO. The last year when Leila Lopes from Angola won, it´s was an innovation and en excellent choice but the show was bad although the host was the beautiful and exotic country Brasil.
I´m sorry, but Miss World is the best and most important international beauty contest since a lot of years only we have to see the number of contestant, the exotic and beautiful host country and the interesting show before and during the final ceremony. It´s a global beauty, social and culte festival not only a business like MU.

countries dont want to deal with MU, they pay lots of money to see a very predictable top 16 and winner, and after what they did to bahamas whith her not placing when they hosted it i do not think its gonna happen there this year. that is why i like MW all girls have a chance to win and put their countries out there, show their personalities, talent and inside beauties.

One of the reasons people lost interest is because it is rigged and the fact that many deserving candidates are denied the Top 16 spots.

Venezuela does not have the money at the moment to host such event, plus this year they have Presidential elections.

16 Million dollars in today’s economy is absurd and unrealistic….Most likely it will stay in the US…That’s why they are having problems looking for a host country… The Miss Universe brand is not as prestigious as the MUO believes…..I wouldn’t be surprise if they cancel the 2012 edition.
Why do they need to charge that amount of money? I thought Trump was a billionaire. Where does all the money go? Their runners up certainly don’t appear to receive much in cash. I can’t believe they need that kind of money! If they charged considerably less I’m sure countries would fall over themselves to host the contest, even the UK, have they thought of that? It is a general rule that if you cut prices you get more interest and people buy more so you make more. Why not charge less and give more prize money and lots to charity as Miss World does.

MW has official host country for 2012 and 2013…MU will be in boring Vegas again probably :/ that`s why I preffer MW, exotic and interesting places as hosts!
