Miss Italia nel Mondo: 21-year old competition says Goodbye

MONTECATINI, Italy — During the press conference to announce details of the Miss Italia 2012 competition -to be held in Montecatini Terme on September 10th-, pageant organizer Patrizia Mirigliani confirmed that the “Miss Italia nel Mondo” competition, born in 1991, will no longer be held.

Instead, from now on, the “Miss Italia nel Mondo” prize will be given to a contestant of Miss Italia with foreign roots. Mirigliani said that the decision is a tribute due to today’s globalization and immigration and the important role these people play in helping the country’s economy.

Lack of sponsorship and budget limitations also played a role in the disappearance of the international event.

“Miss Italia nel Mondo” was a competition for foreign beauties aged 18-26 with italian roots.  Some notable Grand Slam pageant contestants were holders of the title, such as Catalina Acosta (Miss Colombia 1999-2000), Valentina Patruno (Miss World Venezuela 2003), Silvana Santaella (Miss Earth Venezuela 2007) and Fiorella Migliore (Miss World Paraguay 2012).  The reigning titleholder is Brazil’s Silvia Novais.

2001 winner Valentina Patruno (as USA) represented Venezuela in Miss World 2003 (Top 20)

2004 winner Silvana Santaella represented Venezuela in Miss Earth 2007 (Top 4)

2008 winner Fiorella Migliore will represent Paraguay in Miss World 2012 this August in Ordos, China

Well,at least MW Italy is properly owned.. Miss Universe Italy in my opinion is a nightmare..many regional directors complained that Elisa Torrini won on cheating..and i believe it. She was probably the last girl i expected to be crowned. Nice personality, but beautywise very mediocre. May this year Italy choose a decent delegate for MU.. Some good girls are joining the pageant..

For me is a real mistery why Italy never won MU crown.

Not to mention that the italians were miserably robbed in 1960 when the dull and bland Linda Bement defeated the marvellous and statuesque Daniela Bianchi. Bement disappeared in the dust and Bianchi became one of the biggest beauties of the 60s, after starring in 007 From Russia With Love with Sean Connery some years later.

They have any prevention against Italy in this contest….

And what about the stunning Sofia Bruscoli at MW 2005? She so deserved it,so much! She’s become such a successful model,tv hostess and actress here in Italy,as well as Giorgia Palmas (she deserved it as well, but India was gorgeous!) Let’s pray this Saturday a gorgeous girl will be crowned Miss Mondo Italia 2012 so that she can follow Giada Pezzaioli’s and Tania Bambaci’s steps at MW! We want a third placement in a row!

The target for Italy must be the Big One: the MU crown.

Miss Italia, the #1 pageant in Italy, doesn’t even send the winner to Miss World or Miss Universe. And in Europe the BIG ONE is Miss World.

Italy’s rep during the MU competition in 1987 should have won over loco Bolocco of Chilly Chile. I would have wanted Pebbles of the Philippines to win but with the top five, Italy should have won instead of being 1st runner up.

So sad. Such a spectacular pageant, every year! So many Miss Italia nel Mondo delegates competed at Miss Universe,Miss World,Miss Earth..like this year’s Miss DR Universe :) I wish Miss Italia brings back the MU franchise.. If my country had sent all Miss Italia winners in the last decade,we would’ve certainly already won a crown,at least..

  • Its time to finish,its too old fashion now,only 3d world countrys left/exept USA/

It was a one of a kind pageant, too sad! :(
