Leila Lopes arrived in Rio de Janeiro last friday after an African tour that took her to Togo, Ghana, Nigeria and Senegal.
On Sunday, June 17th, Leila participated at the Rio+20 event held at the Parque dos Atletas in Rio de Janeiro, where she handed out an award to organizations who fight against desertification.
Lopes, who has been named UN Ambassador for the combat of desertification, will head during the week to the northern state of Ceara, where she will visit regions affected by the drought.

Don’t be such an apparent racist. I did not think Philippines was the best, I did think Angola was. I also don’t think Brazil deserved to get as far as she did. But everyone is different, just because you think someone is the best others won’t. Just as the judges preferred someone else. That is what makes the world/universe great, everyone is different and has different opinions and thank goodness for that. Philippines can’t win all the time, get over it and appreciate a stunning winner.

Come to think of it, I think Filippinos have an inferiority complex- why else would they always pick a mixed race winner to represent them??? Can you believe that they are still talking about how their queen was robbed in Miss Universe 1998????

I love Leila but she won because she spoke Portuguese and the audience was rooting for her. Miss Brazil shouldn’t have made it that far to 2nd-runner up but she was also favored.
