Comments made by Miss Dominican Republic Universe organizer, Magali Febles, turned the pageant world upside down on Thursday when she mentioned during an interview that Donald Trump had confirmed her this year’s edition of Miss Universe would be held in the Dominican Republic.

The news spread lifke wildfire instantly, including  agencies like Reuters, Associated Press and AFP.

However, Brenda Mendoza (head of Public Relations for the Miss Universe Organization, based in New York) said to AP that neither the date nor location of the 2012 pageant have been announced, and added that the Dominican Republic is not confirmed as the host site.

OONFIRMED NY THE END OF JULYY!!!!!???? WTF IS THAT..!!???

  • geostat

I just realized… Venezuela won 6 times but never hosted the event. Only Peru, Ecuador, and Brazil were the hosts for South America.

  • Gaby

    What about Jo-burg, South Africa?

  • eerjoy

scarborough shoal that would make a worldwide headline lol

  • The only countries Miss Universe could be held would be in 3rd world countries….Europe is very expensive!!!

  • Daniel

I think Dubai or Sydney would be an ideal choice to host Miss Universe…but the Government of those countries would have to agree to it as it costs millions of dollars to host.

  • Pogi

I hope not. It’s kinda unexciting if its gonna be held in another Latina country. It would be nice if it will be held in any US state, but not Vegas again. Or Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Singapore, Poland or Ireland.

  • weng

i thought of NEW YORK since the main MUO headquarter is based, this is only if no country or state will host it.

  • Ken

I think Sydney, Australia would be a great choice! For those who asked if the pageant was ever held in Europe – Yes; Greece in 1973 and Cyprus in 2000. Both were great productions! I loved the show from New York City in 1981, but not New York in December. Like the idea of Costa Rica, Uruguay, and Argentina, along with Australia. In December must head to the southern hemisphere.

MU should be held in one of these countries – Australia, Ukraine, Poland, Italy, Spain, France, South Africa, Mauritius.

  • Amatt225

We have to remember, any country that has a majority Muslim population will not even be considered for a venue. I can’t remember which year it was that the venue for the Miss World pageant had to be switched during the preliminaries. The venue was originally in Nigeria. The locals were very unhappy and threw rocks at the contestants due to seeing girls in bikinis. Places like Dubai, UAE and others that are in the Middle East and parts of Africa will not be considered at all for a venue.

  • Alberto

Dominican Republic hosted MU in 1977 and the winner was Janelle Commissiong of Trinidad & Tobago.

  • shane

IT SHOULD BE held in europe may be in italy ,netherlands france or spain

  • lamarquise

Has MU ever been hosted in an European country? I wonder why not. Perhaps no interest.

    • EvaLenaLundstrom

In the hey day of European interest, it was always the awkward 5 and 6 hour time difference between the US east coast that was the problem. It was known that Sweden did not want the pageant hosted live at 2pm here one year when it was discussed after Margareta won in the late 60′s. Now, it is total lack of interest. Finland a powerhouse in day lacks a director, here in Sweden we seem to have small announcement parties rather than pageants. Many of us here in Europe see it as a Latina pageant since the 80′s, and the tide is not turning the success for Miss Universe still lives with the Latin powerhouses to this day.

    • EvaLenaLundstrom

      I meant 2am….sorry!

  • WilliamNYC

    Back to Las Vegas

  • Fantasio

In the meanwhile, MW has its hosts locked till 2015!

If MUO thinks attracting tv viewers around the world, Canada might be the one.

This country made history when they allow the very first transgender to join their national pageant.

With Jenna as one of the judges, viewers curiosity will surely make the ratings high.

    • Ed

Actually the Jenna controversy did nothing for Miss Universe Canada. The pageant did not sell out as was said, and there was no TV station interested. Its very hard to host pageants in Canada.

      • Francois

That’s a shocker… as I thought that the Miss Canada pageant was a blockbuster.

Then, pageant-loving country like Australia (summer in December), Philippines (mild weather in December) or Thailand can be a good venue. The Philippines and Australia did good at MU for the last two years (more for the Aussies).

  • angel

miss should be host in a exotic place as somalia ,mozambique, cote d’ivoire, haiti, madagascar, malawi, gabon,

    • Kim

Somalia? Malawi? Haiti? You must be retarded darling.

      • tweegy

Haba. It was just an opinion. Somalia and other countries cannot afford to waste huge amounts of money on such when their economies are barely managing to survive. it will be a waste of tax payers money and investments which can be used for important things.

  • Neto

the last minute decision making……it would be LAS VEGAS!

  • AlexRio

One thing is right: with all this mess and uncertainty, Julia Morley must be laughing her ass off …..

  • Rufo

que se haga en las Catararas del Yguazu – Paraguay

  • latinpana

I wish miss universe should be in Amsterdam, Netherlands; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Kwazulu Natal, South Africa; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Mendoza, Argentina; Punta Del Este, Uruguay; San Juan, Puerto Rico; San Jose, Costa Rica; Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Doha, Qatar

  • Kurara_fan

Are these countries willing to pay millions of dollars for the hosting fee? Trump has jacked up the hosting fees since he took over. I don’t think the likes of Australia, the Philippines even other States in the US would waste money on MU, which has been a dying brand.

If Miss Universe is hot, how come they’re having a hard time looking for a host country? And haven’t anyone notice that no US State wants to host Miss USA? Why is it always in Las Vegas, Nevada? It’s because it’s the cheapest.

  • AlexRio

The host of MU 2012 will be on an American city or some tiny Latin-American country as ever. I bet in the first option. It is easier to Trump.

I think Trump has the dream to hold a pageant in Paris, Rome or Berlin but Europe dont care.

    • Andrés

Don’t generalize. Bahamas, Vietnam, Thailand(none in Latin America) have all been hosts in recent years. Same as Brazil and Mexico, none of which qualifies as ‘tiny’.

  • AlexRio

All this buzz is waste of time and gossip. The only acceptable source for news about MU should be Miss Uiverse Organization.

    • Gigi

I could never agree more with you! I find this endless buzz and speculation and “I heard she said that he said that she said that he confirmed” nothing but a complete waste of our time, attention and energy and people who lurk online 24/7 starting all these rumours seriously need to get a life outside pageantry! How many “host cities” have we got this year?! I bet this is the world record in the history of Miss Universe! This was started as early as in October, with all that South-Africa gushing, and since that, no end has been seen! All kinda amateur “websites” and so-called “insiders” making up one freaking story after another! Wait till the official announcement of the Miss Universe organization and till that, forget everything about the entire issue and get a life! The only people really aware of what is going on are the real Miss Universe insiders, and I bet there is nobody of them down here among us!

    • Gigi

Just to add, with amateur websites, I did not mean Global Beauties – the only pageant website that I bother to visit. I know that we can count on the info posted here – you could not know that even Magali Febles was making up stories about “confirmations.” I meant the likes GB already mentioned above and that start and nourish these stories that hold as much truth as children’s Cinderella stories! And I for one am done with all that!

  • Tobia

…LAS VEGAS TAMPA, FLORIDA OR MIAMI BEACH ARE THE ONES BEING RUMORED/MENTIONED AS MOST LIKELY TO HOST MU2012..

  • Luk

Come back to Perth Miss Universe! We are a booming city! There’s a new Perth Arena, sadly the original venue that hosted universe back in the days has been knocked down.

  • VenusMars

Ideally, Miss Universe should be held in Philippines, the new superpower of beauty pageants. Holding it there would certainly boost the image of Miss Universe.

    • AlexRio

What Phillippines has won to be the ‘the new superpower’?

    • Jason

Boy, filipino fans are really superlative. Phillipines has made sort of a comeback in recent years with several placements but no crowns(unlike Venezuela, USA, Brazil and other real powerhouses) so to call it the new ‘superpower’ is stretching it a lot. Plus, organizing and hosting Miss Earth hasn’t precisely helped that pageant’s image and credibility in recent years, now has it?

    • geostat

I’m a Filipino, but I don’t think we should be hosting in this times. After all the messes that Gloria Arroyo made and AbNoy Aquino is adding up to that, we might find it hard to clean up our act to host an international event.

  • pop

I have also heard that the state of Mississippi might be one of the selected host cities to be holding this year’pageant.
I want it to be held in the state instead of Dominican Republic if it’s possible, because this state has never been the venue for MU and I want to see something new.

  • Hung

The pageant should be held in Australia in Melbourne! it has the infrastructure to hold it and Australia has not hosted the pageant since the 1900′s
