Skyler Kamaka, 21, edged out other 14 contestants at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu to become the new Miss Hawaii, which gives her the right to compete for the 2013 Miss America title.

Kamaka won the state pageant in her very first try. She told reporters that previous to Miss Diamond Head, a Miss Hawaii preliminary contest, she had never competed in any beauty competition.
