  1. I tend to agree with Ajani. I prefer Miss Universe Pageant over Miss World. I don’t know anything about politics w/ Miss World, altho it seems in recent Trump years of Miss Universe that there ocasionally is some controversy/news drama/publicity etc. Altho it is astounding and impressive that MW gets a vast larger # of countries participating than MU, and may attract a much larger viewing audience- that alone does not IMO make it a better pageant-to the contrary- MW is SO huge it is harder to focus on each individual contestant. In the recent MW pageants I’ve watched, they all parade out in evening gowns, coming out in small groups, usually without sashes that show which country they are from as opposed to one at girl at a time since they have too many contestants to get thru. And I’ve never cared for the MW Fast Track competitions. No interest in seeing them compete in a sports competion, who has the best talent( if I want to see a girl sing or dance etc I’d watch Miss America etc), who has the best catwalk and is the best model (prefer to see their catwalk and modeling/posing ability during the actual final competition), and other competitions. Just want traditional basic competitions of swimsuit, evening gown and interview (alongwith national costumes).
Also like shorter more contemporary musical performers and not the longer drawn out host country musical/dancinf acts. I do like MW’s continental queens aspect tho- so that each type of beauty (ie Asian, African, etc) is appreciated and recognized- altho sometimes the “best’ representative of that region who has won her continental crown still may be very weak compared to most of the other contestants. What would be interesting is to see a comprehensive list comparing Miss Universe and Miss World winners and runnerups/finalists- and how successful they became after they gave up their crowns/what they did with their lives.

    • Jeff, the franchise fee of acquiring Miss Universe is much expensive than that of Miss World… That is why there are more countries joining Miss World… that is one aspect… the second aspect is that, Miss World which is British owned a formerly superpower country who conquered many countries around the world and up to this moment has some territories they’ve rulings over… those are considerations taken up by franchise owner or national pageant organizers of sending their delegates to which pageant…

  2. Countries like Cyprus and Greece send their winners in the Miss Universe while Israel and Turkey in same region send their winner to Miss World… In Latina countries, winners are sent to Miss Universe while they have title of Miss (name of the country) world then goes 1st RU so it will not undermine the Miss World Title… In Europe there are more countries who crowns their winner for Miss World but not much… In Asian Countries, they follow same treatment the Latinas are doing… For me, Miss Universe are more prestigious and exciting and you’ve got the hint to whose going to make it unlike Miss World though they outnumbered Miss Universe seems to different and boring… Prediction are hard to take… And Miss World play politics too much… Donald Trump & MU Org. pick their choice but I guess their choice are excellent at times while Miss World play it too obvious giving host countries the edge even giving them crown? Say for instance in 2007, Angola, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominican Republic, Jamaica are outstanding and they all deserve the crown instead of Miss China though undeniably she has some X-factor too… And why is Hong Kong China in the finalist row that year? And why in the events where strong countries host the pageant they made it to the final round and worst always get placement who deserved to be for others… Miss World if they adopt some energetic and gay shows then I believe they will outdone and outshine Miss Universe…

  3. They both out of my Top 10

  4. Miss Cyprus Universe is beautiful, good luck.

    • Yes, I thought last year’s contestant was overlooked, but I think this year’s contestant is even better. Hopefully this one makes the cut.

  5. Miss Universe Cyprus looks like Miss World 2002 Azra Akin… :D

  6. Is that Sandra Bullock? Looks like there’s a Miss Congeniality 3 in the works…

  7. hector rivera says:

the overral winner is the one who is crowned Star cyprus and goes to represent cyprus in Miss Universe. Its important you mention that. Despite of this runner up, the true is that star cyprus is the main winner nad Miss cyprus is the one who came second.

    • Did you even bother to read the article, or is it just that you don’t understand English?

    • Star Cyprus’ crown is bigger than that of Miss Cyprus… I wonder why… I guess you are correct Mr. Hector Rivera.
