After the recent rumors by Colombian networks about the possible cancellation the Miss Universe 2012 pageant (which according to the MUO are false and unfounded), news outlets and pageant fanatics are having a field day making up bogus press releases, editing the Wikipedia page or creating even more rumors about this year’s venue.
The latest in a series of fake news involves a newspaper report stating that New York City is hosting the competition in December.
However, reigning Miss Universe Leila Lopes has clarified -via twitter- that New York City will NOT host this year’s competition. But the date has been confirmed: Tuesday, December 11th.
At this point it is uncertain when the Miss Universe Organization will release the official news.
This article states that Lopes confirmed the Miss Universe 2012 pageant would be held in New York City. However, Lopes claimed these news are false and that the competition will NOT be held there.
WHY is it SUCH a BIG DEAL stating where the Miss Universe pageant going to be held at?? Come to Philippines. Philippines the perfect host for Miss Universe. A host must not be just a host. The host country must also be able to send beautiful and competitive delegate, not like what happened in Bahams a couple of years ago.

I agree with RAFY. Ever since Trump got his greedy paws on the pageant, Miss Universe has degraded from it’s primary position in international competitions. Look at how successful Miss World is today, with 117 contestants competing for the crown on Saturday, compared to Miss Universe who cannot seem to even have a 2012 pageant. It’s shameful! Trump is The Biggest Loser.

I think the numbers of contestants is not an indication of the success and the quality of the pageant. Miss World has usually had a lot more contestants than Miss Universe, but we have seen for several years how stunning beautiful each MU title holders are.But I agree that Trump is a problem of the organization and want him to be out.

I thought it was going to be in Las Vegas because no other place wants to host it? People will believe anything and if I heard New York City, I would already know it would be false because it’s too expensive there.
The pageant will probably in the US, either Los Angeles or Miami. The fact that New York is in a deep freeze during December should tip people off that this is not the place.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the pageant go to the Bahamas or Puerto Rico.
New York City is in the midst of high travel season with shoppers. Room rates are at their highest, I would think Miami pre-holiday would make more economic sense.
At least they have a date (Dec 11). That is a positive sign. OF COURSE it would not be in NYC, on of the most expensive cities on earth. Even The Donald will not allow one of his hotels to lose money by housing the delegates. I suspect that MU will be staged in some non-glamorous place like Newark, NJ. A less-expensive place in greater NY, so that the MUO can remain ‘at home’ and close enough for some nice parties and events in Manhattan, yet save on hotel and venue rent.
If the Miss Universe pageant goes to Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas, it will be so anti-climatic. A real let down.

Don’t forget MU was hosted by different cities from 2000 to 2011 without repetitive hosting and MW was hosted by China for what? nth time!!! that’s a package deal to assure what? hosting duties as well as placements.
MU is pageant and an entertainment extravaganza. It may have lesser candidates but its overall production values on finals night is miles…say again..miles better than MW has to offer ten years from now.
I just hate how MW fans try to bring down such glamorous pageant just to make it appear MW has been this and that. Just stick to the merits of each pageant.

New York City would be a great choice! I loved the 1981 pageant from New York. I am convinced now that the MUO is just allowing this uncertainty to continue for the publicity.
