Miss Netherlands 2013

Miss Netherlands Universe (left), and Miss Netherlads World (right) for 2013

The Miss Netherlands 2013 pageant took place on Monday night, December 10, in Bunnik. Twelve delegates competed for the titles Miss Netherlands Universe and Miss Netherlands World 2013.

The Dutch representative in Miss Universe will be Stefanie Tency, while in Miss World, the Netherlands will be represented by Jacqueline Steenbeek.

Something curious is that both winners were crowned on a unique event, going against what Miss World made clear earlier this year: Miss World representatives should be elected in exclusive events. Venezuela, Mexico, and other nations, have agreed and changed their national pageants in order to accomodate the new rules. Will Holland be accepted as an exception?

Kim Kotter, a former Miss Universe Netherlands, produces the event.

In any case, congratulations to the winners!

I am sure in cases, where its not affordable, both contestants will get choosen as I’m sure she’d rather have a contestant not having one

MWO crowned many national contest runners up in the past anyway. Even as recent as Venezuela last year, so why must Julia keep making big deals over this???

If Julia Morley is not happy with 1st runners up, then she should just keep quiet and reject the entries. Unless there are 2 separate organizations, then she should respect the National Directors’ decisions. Not all NDs think MW is more prestigious. Some countries still view MU as THE Pageant of all Pageants. Moreover, it is recessions time in most countries, so she should be sensitive and understanding.

Both girls are finalist materials…they should switch contests though…

I think it’s perfectly fine that Julia imposes this new rule. It is protecting the Miss World brand and its integrity. Miss World does not want to be known as a major pageant when it only gets the runner-ups from national Miss Universe competitions. Furthermore, Miss World is easily surpassing Miss Universe in viewership and has way more contestants, so they are doing something right.

They both are pretty, but I didnt expect them to win. I Hope Jacqueline Steenbeek(if she gets rejected) will be replaced by Tari Herzenberg (SF Miss International 2011) or Shirley Wijngaarden

GB but these days beauty pageant are struggling to survive, i think is dificult to demand separate pageants. isnt?

Julia Morley is obsessed on this idea because in the Latin community and even in the Asia, the winners are actually the one sent to Miss Universe and the runner up is the one sent to Miss World although their sash is Miss Mundo/World (name of the country). In so far as I am concerned even if the Miss World candidate will be crowned on a separate event, still the winners chosen on those events are left-overs of Miss Universe if not all… Like here in the Philippines, both candidates to Miss World in 2011 and 2012 are only finalist at Miss Universe Philippines.

How petty of MW to demand exculsivity. In this day and age of recession it makes more sense to have one contest to elect any representatives for the big 2,3,4 or 5 pageants.

SO FAR ONLY VENEZUELA, MEXICO AND ANGOLA HAD ACCEPTED…BOLIVIA AND PERU ALSO RECEIVED THE SAME REQUIREMENT

THIS STUFF ABOUT SEPARATE PAGEANTS FOR MISS WORLD SHOULD STOP…WHY JULIA MORLEY IS SO OBSESSED WITH THIS?

Perhaps beacuse she has built a name and reputation and does not want to see her pageant associated with others. Do you ever see Coke and Pepsi sponsoring the same event? The answer is no. Rules are rules, and should be respected. If they don’t like it, they pick one and move on.

The subject expressed by Hector is very reasonable, and it shows arrogance of Ms. Morley. We are living in difficult times, and beauty contests are not important, these are simple entertainment shows.
