Official statement regarding Scoreboard errors in Miss World 2012

An official statement was released today explaining that the mistakes in the numbers shown on last year’s Miss World Scoreboard were caused by human error, and that the announced results by the presenters during the live telecast were accurate:

OMG! Who wrote this letter? Did they spell check it? Twice they misspelled “organisation”. Plus they misspelled “licence”, “apologise” and “minimise”

It amazes me, how many anti-MW fans refuse to understand the simple explanation from MWO but continue to focus on technical glitch haha.

Now I would like to see the final scoreboard, with everything revealed.
Glad to see the statement to give explanation.

The scoreboard was correctly updated for all challenges except for the final challenge – BWAP. The ranking of the contestants was correct … with India on top and Kenya in 15th place after BWAP scores. Top 15 was announced in reverse order…Kenya first and lastly India The only problem was that BWAP scores were not shown on the scoreboard due to a computer glitch. You can easily surmise/work out the final scores/rank from the scores shown after the Talent challenge.

The top 7 was then picked from the top 15 based on stage presence as was announced i.e. prelim scores were erased and the girls started from scratch again. This is how Brazil (9th place) replaced Mexico (who was second in prelim scores) smong the top 7. This erasing of prelim scores and reassessing the shortlisted girls has happened on numerous occasions esp during the years when scores were shown in MU pageant. We have had girls who barely make top 12 SF but moving up all the way to top 5. We had girls in top 3 in prelims but dropping out of top 5 in the finals… Dominique Dufour, Odette Scrooby, Leila Schuster comes to mind !

All in all, I still have faith in MW. They only need to show the prelim final scores (not ranking as it was already correctly listed) to dispel all doubts (though cynical and bitter people will still hv a grouse as their fav did not rank as high as they would have liked). Anyway the MWO is not obliged to do so as in many years of the pageant, no scores were ever shown and fans have accepted it. Even MUO does not show scores these days not do they annouce who the 6 MUO picks were…..we can only guess !!! All I can say is, if you don’t like the pageant, don’t bother watching it and stop all the whinging.

Even though the prelim score are not erased. It is still possible that Miss Brazil replaced Miss Mexico to be in the Top 7. Please trace back to the pageant in 2011. the first place in the semifinal round (Ivian) was awarded 50 points, while some girls were awarded 2 points only in the Top 15 round.

Chances are Miss Brazil was placed in a high position in the Top 15 round (like placing 2nd or 3rd, being awarded with 30 to 40 points), whereas Miss Mexico was placed nearly the last in Top 15 and was awarded with 2 points only. With this difference of around 28 to 38 points, Miss Brazil was still able to reach Miss Mexico and became a finalist, even though the gap between their prelim scores are also huge.

(My prediction is that with the increase of the bonus points for the challenge events, from a maximum of 20 to a maximum of 50, the points awarded to the semifinal round would also increase, perhaps to a maximum of 100. Then the aforementioned points awarded to Misses Brazil and Mexico would be larger, and at the same time, the difference between their total score can be much larger, which may explain the switch of their positions.)

The possible reason that Miss Mexico was placed at lower position in the semifinal round is that, Miss Mexico was very much like a Miss Universe delegate, not a Miss World delegate. Indeed, she is beautiful, which is appreciated with the fact of putting her into the Top 15. However, her makeup makes her old and not energetic enough. If you observe the Miss World (winner and pageant) for the previous years, the judges are finding for either girls who look pure and congenial, or elegant women with stunning face or grace. Unfortunately, Miss Mexico is neither one of these.

Another unfortunate thing is that, this is not something that can be changed by just selecting Miss Mexico World in the semifinal of NBM, especially when the selected girl looks too masculine. Miss World pageant originates from the United Kingdom, so their ‘taste’ is closer, or in a sense favouring, the European. The fact that Latin American did not get so much advantages in Miss World is not something happened in a day or two. Unless Lupita Jones can find a girl with an exceptional face like Ksenia Sukhinova, or a girl outstanding grace like the current Miss World Wenxia Yu, or even a girl with unbeatable congeniality like Kaiane Aldorino, otherwise her ‘complaints’, or in my sense her murmuring, do not do anything good for her to find the first Mexican Miss World.

    Please post the real scoreboard

I thought this referred to Miss USA’s score. She was in 13th or so place with a score of 152, which was much lower than any other contestant’s, so her advancing looked odd.

  • fan of mexico

oh my God, i never see it again

  • Gaby

oh well at least this one is still forgivable, unlike the corruption scandal at Miss Earth

I don’t like the scoreboard concept. Its no fun knowing your delegate won’t place when your flag doesn’t appear on the first scoreboard of the interview round and already knowing who did well in the challenge events.

I also don’t think it is fair that only a few (qualifying)girls earn points in beach beauty and top model events. These events are like the traditional Swimsuit and Evening gown segments. Every contestant should get a score as long as she competes.

GB is a well respected pageant site. The owners of this site should communicate this to the MWO since they are not listening to the common fans.

So then, what were the real results!? Some of the ladies in that top 7 made absolurely no sense! and the how exactly were the results posted on the screen wrong? no offence, but some of the girls chosen in that top were quite simply not even close to be considered top contenders… I am just very dissapointed with this pageant.

  • Francisco Lateriz

What a scandalous shame on the part of the entity that handles the scoreboard

  • ABJ

This is worse than Miss Earth’s fake videotape scandal.

  • arc

GB, are you now going to remove Miss World in your Big 4?

  • Michael

    Yeah, I’m sure.

  • Shelu

wow! the directors must have been disgruntled about the scoreboard which forced Miss World and partner to issue this message.

  • Luis Alberto

Dan a qué pensar¡

  • Marco

So….Miss World 2012 is Miss Mexico ???…and is dethroned the chinese girl ??..or what ??

  • Secret

This score system based on activites is boring they should bring back the swimsuit & evening gown rounds.

  • XYZ

Well then, what were the accurate scores? Why did they wait 5 months to issue the apology?

The scoreboard was an excellent addition to the 2011 pageant although I felt it inappropriate to have the contestants and judges be shown it throughout the evening (the girls should all be competing as though they think they’re in the #1 spot, not #18 or whatever). However, the scoreboard was a massive fail in the 2012 pageant and no one knew what to do about it.

  • chilemiss

SO that means that the current miss world titleholder miss china may not be the real miss world. mrs julia morley review the whole pageant or may happens that the credibility of her pageant could dissapear.
