The USA is the Country of the Year 2012

usa2When Misses USA and Philippines were holding hands waiting for the Miss Universe 2012 winner’s announcement, they did not know that that was the decisive moment also for theCountry of the Year 2012 award. In a fierce dispute, the Miss Universe victory gave the US and extra edge to crown it as the most successful nation in Grand Slam pageants in the year which recently ended. Although the Philippines was the only country to have placed in all 4 held Grand Slam contests in 2012, the US had a G2 victory, which made the difference in the end.

  2. iyak says:

in my own opinion this organization want to cook the grandslam result too. if miss world in china winner is ch,ina, japan to japan, philippines to S.Republic. USa to USA.Do you think its fair? Miss S Republic deserves hr title. When Miss USA Wins against Miss Philippines do u think its fair results?

  3. iyak says:

i think its not fair decision to remove Miss earth as part of the grandslam of global beauties..Miss earth is Miss earth. And we and as avid fan of beauty pageants Miss Earth winner deserves her title that night.

  4. Gauss 918 says:

Did you really watch the show? the EG and SS competitions were ruled by Australia, Venezuela, south. africa and philippines..

  5. MJ says:

I really do not know how the USA bagged the Miss Universe crown when her answer to that last question was so contradicting. Based on the strings of winners of the pageant they won it based on the final question. Mpule Kwelagobe, Lara Dutta, Jennifer Hawkins, Oxana Fedorova, even last years winner Leila Lopes, but with that decided and the USA winning country of the year. Congratulations!

  6. Franz says:

Miss USA deserves her win. I love Janine, but she came across as too calculating and cold during the finals night. Miss USA was as bubbly as she could be. The Q&A is just part of the final judgment, not THE WHOLE of it.

    • rayriver says:

Excused me, excused me again….have you seen the whole pageant? Or are you blind?……in every competition, MISS USA FAILED!..In swimsuit, the way she walks….LIGWAK…chaka….no poise and bearing….in evening gown agen….ligwak…the gown is to big for her and she tripped….doesnt know how to walk no elegance…..i have watched miss olivia’s training, she cannot deliver… from 1 till dec19 .i was there……watching…MISS PHILIPPINES IS THE BEST AND MUCH DESERVES TO WIN…..even the people in UNITED STATES KNEW THAT MISS PHILIPPINES SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE WINNER…..even the candidates themselves told JANINE and i qoute “YOU KNEW IT WAS YOU”…..understood?

      • Bayou says:

Hey chill out. That’s Franz’s opinion and he’s entitled to it, the way you’re entitled to yours as well. If you disagree with him, then fine. But please try to respect other people’s opinion and stop shoving yours down our throat.

      • bettinansf says:

I am sorry, guys! Actually, the placement of the 2012 Miss Universe pageant top 5 was according to height. The shorter you are, the higher your placement. Brazil, 5’11″, 5th; Australia, 5’10, 4th; Venezuela, 5’10″, 3rd, Philippines, 5’8″, 2nd; USA, 5’4″, first. Now, you know why USA won.

    • pop says:

I agree. Miss USA is definitely more beautiful than Miss Philippines and she gave her answer naturally. Also an answer is not everything in the pageant. The judges were looking for overall winner ,not a good-speaking one. But USA did a very good job.

    • xenosmark says:

hi franz, it is where, a lot of pageant fanatics, are coming from. the Q&A is not the entire pageantry, have you watched the EG and SS competitions? try to revisit the event, you’ll see why people are say USA shouldnt be the CY.

I also agree with pop, that USA is indeed more beautiful compared to Philippines. It is the ladies carry themselves during the pageant night. try to watch again the videos, rate everyone in the top 5, then, give them their scores, not just on their beauty, but also on their grace, check how natural the way each answered.

anyway, i love olivia culpo as well, when i saw her, i thought she’s the one to beat, and she made it!

  7. xenosmark says:

looking at the tables, i believe, the country of the year should be Philippines, i understand very well the point system as promulgated by the GB, yet, only the Philippines has placed in all of the Grand Slam Pageants, anyhow, congrats to everyone! it’s the rule of GB as to who should be proclaimed the country of the year, thanks anyway to GB for showing the details, at least, your followers would know who really did well in the GS pageants!

    • daniel says:

I respect GB’s decision for saying that USA is the country of the year. But then again, as how a specific juror decides a particular beauty pageant winner, judging is subjective. With that, for me Philippines is the country of the year. Let us just respect each other position. Thank You!

  8. jm says:

i dont know if country of the year has significance at all. i believe MU, MW, & MI are the only top-ranked pageants on the planet (by virtue of historical significance or longevity )

  9. alvin says:

I dont understand how USA beat the Philippines for the Country of the year when the latter managed to make it all 4 pageants while USA only made it to 3. Based on the point system, USA beat Philippines due to the former’s win at MU. It is just weird to see a huge gap between their points when the other one (Philippines) came in second at MU.

    • GB says:

Has the Philippines actually WON any titles in 2012? It’s pure math.

      • bettinansf says:

I can do the math, what I don’t understand is how you formulate the points.

      • Daniel says:

GB: has the Philippines WON any title in 2012… You better be more specific about titles. You should indicate if the title you were asking is global beauties self declared grandslam title…in that case,we did not win any (eventhough it is very clear that we are the best in Miss Universe 2012) But with other titles, we won… Ok Miss tourism international, man hunt international and miss tourism queen international. You better check all the GB news you have been delivering throughout the yer. Before you post any questions, be specific in raising your point properly!

        • Ed says:

          1) Anybody who is an avid visitor of Global Beauties knows that Miss World and Miss Universe are worth the DOUBLE of points than any of the other pageants. USA and Philippines placed in both.

2)Minor titles which are not part of the Grand Slam are not considered for “Country of the year”. Miss tourism Queen International winner is from Thailand

3)Philippines won the country of the year in MALE competitions.

  10. DFSGS says:

    PHILIPPINES!! WHOAH!!

  11. JayPee says:

    Well deserved Miss Universe…

  12. osy says:

home town decision. Should Ms. Phils won , will she ba given that “secret title”? Anyway, it was a good thing that Miss USA speaks her language, at least she can remedy the fact that she wasnt able to get the question immediately, the reason why she made a sort of ad lib.

  13. Gauss 918 says:

i dont think USA is d Country of The Year..almost all pageant related sites in the world say and claim that Philippines got the title as it placed in all the 4 major international pageants and earned enough points to be on top..

    • GB says:

Do the math. USA is the Country of the Year.

  14. ajani says:

First, I want to address the scoring, since I don’t get how they’ve done it for Miss Universe. Is the winner for Miss World with special awards? like china bagging ms talent thats why China’s score as winner was greater than Miss Universe? There should be legend on how it was done so many would understand. I perfectly don’t get how the scoring was done and why is the scores not coming in tenths or hundredths? Please explain so we better understand and as pageant fanatics we would like to know the process.

I hope GB would understand. I am a fan of the page and I would like to be constructive in all my comments.

    • GB says:

READ the scoring system. You will find how it works there.

  15. Antoine says:

I understand the reasons for Miss Earth’s removal, any form of corruption is not to be tolerated

However, from when have they been removed? If the removal happened after the Miss Earth finals, then the girls competing in that pageant should still be counted towards their countries’ scores… because the scandal only broke out after the finals… the girls competed in Miss Earth in the understanding that they were still competing in a Grand Slam pageant, so their performances should still be counted towards their countries’ scores.

    • GB says:

As soon as it was removed, all points from ME, present and past, have been erased.

  16. FEOLIPINOS says:

GOOD JOB GLOBAL BEAUTIES!!!..YOU HAVE MY RESPECTS!…YOU ARE KEEPING IT REAL!!!…THANK YOU FOR YOUR FIRMNESS!…YOU ROCK!

  17. ezra says:

I think miss tourism queen international should also be removed in the grabd slam, it seems that they dont have the chance to have a yearly pageant, now its the second time that it was not held..

  18. Angela says:

espero que Colombia ya no envie delegadas a miss tierra je que corruptos, tramposos, asi cualquiera que tenga plata GANA,

  19. Bluangel says:

Seriously, Venezuela at 9th place? Osmel, what happened? I did not expect it..

  20. Joseph dominican says:

Mi República Dominicana!!!..(My Dominican Republic!!!) :)

  21. prinpoleon says:

if the miss earth pageant wasnt out of the gram slam venezuela placed 4 on the ranking because osmariel villalobos was 2 runner up if the number dont fail me oh well bad luck this year 2013 i see a dark grand slam for venezuela only miss venezuela earth is beautiful but now doesnt earned point for that i hope than the next miss venezuela world will be a beautiful candidate

  22. prinpoleon says:

    • GB says:

      Si

  23. isis says:

eric im a filipino and i dont think MISS EARTH SHOULD BE IN GRANDSLAM….exploitation of women by means of sending them to businessmens private parties and selling the crown is NOT HONORABLE FOR A BEAUTY PAGEANT…..also miss earth is transphobic and always gives a poor pageant venue and production number and even before this case philippines always on winning spot is already approved the pageant is stupid…..IM A FILIPINO AT NAKAKAINTINDI AKO NG TAGALOG AT NAKAKAPAGSALITA….and respect globalbeauties for its stand agains the rigged and disrespectfull pageant miss earth…..they gave miss earth the spot for big 4 and they can remove it…im a filipino but im not close minded reason why our country is so poor is that u just give and accept the corruption we have in this nation like the politicians and this pageant is no different……respect globalbeauties decision……..thank u and for the transphoc comments here that are still insecure to jenna…..PLEASE GO TO THE MISSO portal there u have many allies…..not here…this is a global AND OPENMINDED WORLD of REAL pageant lovers…………..HAPPY NEW YEAR

Porque as pontuações das candidatas do MU são diferentes, se não houve divulgação de posições finais abaixo do quinto lugar?

    • GB says:

No release divulgado pelo MUO após o concurso, as posições em que foram anunciadas são as oficiais.

      • Plato says:

Eu não encontrei este release na internet. Ele é divulgado na internet?

        • GB says:

It was made available at the press site of MU.

          • Plato says:

Vocês tem como divulgar este release?

          • Ed says:

Foi divulgado no special do Miss universo, o mesmo dia do concurso, pode ir la entao vai ver

  25. 24K says:

If I still remember it correctly, Philippines was also second in Country of the Year last year. Good job!

Nice picture of Miss USA here. She really has a distinct pretty face. Also, Miss Sudan’s picture shows her elegance.

  26. Mar of Florida says:

It was a close fight for COUNTRY OF THE YEAR in the Women’s Ranking. Will there be a ranking for the MEN and TRANSGENDER category?

    • GB says:

Yes, which should be announced later today.

  27. suzannah says:

Why nopoints for quarter finalists?I think they should have 10 points at least!

    • GB says:

      Quarter-finalists received points

  28. Sheena says:

    Congrats USA and Philippines.

  29. Eric says:

To the Organizers of the global beauties website…

It was indeed a great year of pageantry which ended up victorious to different countries winning the much coveted crown and title… Kudos to each and everyone of us supporters who kindheartedly support each candidates in our own respected countries… Kudos also to the pageant sites like Globalbeauties.com whom in one way or another did there very best to update us the worldwide events and happenings…

Let me start by saying some of the sentence answered by newly proclaimed Miss Universe 2012 (Miss USA- Olivia Culpo) that “every experiences, good or bad, we learned from it”… Yes indeed I agree with her… :-)

And it came to my mind that after such controversies from each pageants like Miss China winning in her home country followed by Miss Japan and Miss USA in there respective battles, Miss Earth’s controversy being told that the Crown can be bought made each of us a big shock and impact for us pageant followers. But yes, every year controversy is there… And now 2013 has come and again, where here to support again our own candidates competing in pageants…

But, I have to clarify something or just a suggestion which I had to ask from you organizers of GlobalBeauties.com. I am not pointing to any member nor any direct or indirect bloggers and editors from this site… This is just my own point of view and this is what I want to say: A while ago, I had read one of your article stating that “Miss Earth contest is removed from Grandslam” ranking after consulting from your pageant bloggers and to the Miss Earth Organization.

    My Questions and clarifications are:

Does it really that fast to remove such Pageant Ranking to your rankings when it is still competing in the same year amidst the controversies…?

Does it not possible if such rankings from Miss Earth winners last 2012 be still added and afterwards cut-off there rankings from your Pageant site in this year 2013 when you already done consulting everybody…?

    ———————————————————————————–

I think it should be still added from the rankings you have made not just because they are having such controversies, the fact that each countries with there respective candidates are competing and the pageant successfully went on, it has still to be added in that year’s ranking… Without any doubt, the girls are not to blame on, when they are winning such titles and suddenly not being recognized because of a controversy evolving from the Pageant organizers. It is not there fault so why not still add there rankings to last year’s ranking. I truly think it is there right to being recognize… :-) Thank you… :-)

    • GB says:

Dear Eric, thank you for your comments. Unfortunately Miss Earth has been removed from the Grand Slam, so there’s no reason why points from Miss Earth should be added to the Ranking. Believe us: we are as said and shocked as most fans. GB was the first website to support and recognize Miss Earth as a Grand Slam pageant, so it is all very disappointing. But we must move on. Happy New Year!

  30. SJ1001 says:

Since GB delisted Miss Earth, USA is now the country of the year. I am just wondering how GB will adjust the year 2001 to 2011 since Miss Earth affects the ranking of the winner? Well I guess, they wont do that anymore!

    • Leonard says:

I completely support GB’s decision to demote Miss Earth; that was a joke of a pageant, specially the last few years with Philippines’ outrageously undeserved high placements. I, however, don’t think they should retroactively take those points from the countries who were successful at it during its GS run, and if they haven’t done it by now I don’t think the will.
