Miss World and Mister World attend the Variety Telethon in Iowa

Reigning Miss World Wenxia Yu and Mister World Francisco Escobar travelled to the city of Des Moines Iowa (USA), for the 39th Iowa Variety Telethon. The 24 hour marathon show raised a record breaking total of $3,603,013, the highest amount ever raised in the 39 year history of the telethon.

The money raised from the telethon will go towards a whole host of beneficiaries in the local area of Iowa, Some of which Miss World Visited before the telethon began.

Joining Wenxia and Francisco on the trip were Miss World CEO Julia Morley and Claudine Book, Miss World United States 2012.

The group visited the Mercy Medical Center, Des Moines longest continually operating hospital and also one which is run not-for-profit whilst providing millions of dollars worth of charity care and community benefit each year.

They also went to visit the Iowa Homeless Youth Center, ChildServe and Blank Children’s Hospital, all of whom have benefitted from the great work of Variety and the Telethon over the years, to continue providing vital services for the disadvantaged children of the state of Iowa.

The $3.6 million raised at the weekend brings the grand total to over $90 million raised through the telethon in its history. The entire cast and crew of the telethon have done themselves proud with their hardwork done over the 24 hour period in taking pledges from the watching audiences, and providing entertainment throughout the show.
