Mr World 2014 – contesants review (Argentina – Ghana)

It’s time for the globe’s main male beauty competition, Mr World! The contestants have been quite busy with sports activities, talent presentations, interviews, and rehearsals for Sunday’s big final event, to be webcast by Mr World’s You Tube page to the whole planet (a first!). Who will replace Colombia’s Francisco Escobar, who has done an extraordinary job as Mr World, being very active with Beauty With a Purpose for the past 1.5 year? Here is GB’s take on this year’s first group of candidates:

ARGENTINA

Argentina has close to zero tradition in male pageants, however, Jose Ferrer is ready to change that. Not only he is good at all kinds of sports, but also tops the “looks” department, being a very successful model back home. One of the front-runners, we truly believe Argentina could take it all!

AUSTRALIA

Although Australia has a strong showing on other Grand Slam competitions, such as Manhunt Int’l, it has placed only once in Mr World, back in 1998. Nick Kenett could easily become the 2nd. He may even get a little hand from the current Miss Australia and Miss World Oceania, who’s one of the judges.

Austria is another country with little tradition in male pageants, sending a strong candidate to Mr World 2014. It’s a tough call, because in overall terms, this group is excellent. But don’t be surprised if you see him in the Top 10!

With plenty of style and having done quite well in sports, Mr Bahamas is not to be counted out. The Bahamas has rached Mr World’s top 5 back in 2000. Will Gow go that far??

The good looking and very young (18) fellow representing Bolivia has a big challenge: to become his country’s first ever semi-finalist in Mr World. Can he beat the odds and make history for Bolivia?

Brazil hasmuch tradition and very positive results in international male pageants. Currently it places 2nd in the Mr World Ranking, only behind Belgium, which is not represented this time. Reinaldo is super smart and very envolved with Beauty With a Purpose and the fight against leprosy in his country. Eye on Brazil.

Canada surprised everyone with a Top 5 landing in 2012, with the shortest ever candidate to compete for Mr World (and he will host Mr World’s final this year!). Jin will try to surprise the globe again.

The best showing for China happened when “playing at home”, in 2007, when the country conquered the 3rd position. To see China doing that well again in England would be a major surprise.

The current titleholder is Francisco Escobar from Colombia, which might be an inspiration for handsome Tomas. If not a major favorite, it would not be a surprise to see Colombia placing once again.

Danish people virtually ignore male beauty pageants, reason why Denmark, known for the beauty of its men and women, has not a strong showing in international competitions of this nature. Nicklas has done a great job with his fan page, showing a lively personality. Who knows?

Ok, here is someone to keep both eyes on, Mr England. Although Mr World has its headquarters in London, and the country has hosted the event more times than any other nation, England’s best Mr World result was a semi-finalist placement on three occasions. Jordan may not be the best looking guy around, but he has shown much personality, charm, and hunger for victory. Perhaps the time for England has arrived.

The last time France had a strong showing in Mr World was in 1998, when it placed 3rd. Thibault is not among the favorites, but is certainly giving his best to reach far in the competition.

  1. Tesako Kakita says:

This is gonna be like a World Cup Final: Argentina-Brazil !!!!!

  2. I think Argentina is overrated here. Denmark is definitely in my top 5. Great personality and looks, my personal favourite.

  3. Just my opinion, but I think you’re overrating Australia and England and underrating Denmark (best spoken contestant there and very charismatic) and France.

  4. Sorry, but Colombia is much better than Argentina this year.

  5. 100% Argentina… The guy is smoking HOT

  6. Ghana actually has competed once before in 2003 in London.

    • there was no rep from ghana in 2003 @ mr world. they’ve only sent reps to manhunt (’05 & ’08) before this year’s first rep @ worlds.

  7. Argentina for the win! Could not agree more!

    • Totally agree. My bet is on Argentina also. I think he’s a standout.

  8. Lebanon, Mexico and Brazil
