65th Miss Universe: The List of Favorites 1/19
And here we are again! A full week has passed since the start of the Miss Universe pageant and there have been considerable changes in our list of favorites.
In first place we have Ukraine‘s Alena Spodynyuk who climbed 15 spots (in the last voting she was number 16). Her classical beauty, elegance, incredible face and overall aura makes her the one to beat after the first week of activities. Keep an eye out on her, as Ukraine has come very close during the past years but still has to wear that elusive crown.
In second place we have our biggest mover, Dominican Republic‘s Sal Garcia who has looked stunning in all the events and has that “black hair, red lips” look that people seem to love on stage. Her modeling skills and height will help her get noticed. She made headlines after she had to create a Go Fund Me page to help her get prepared for the pageant, something that was criticized but she showed she is taking the challenge very seriously, so also watch out for this beauty!
Colombia‘s Andrea Tovar stays on the top 5, falling down a couple notches after a few situations that challenged her performance, as she was involved in a misunderstanding about the local food. She had the chance to explain herself on video, but the delegates really need to be more careful about what they say in Social Medias. As they say, Social Media can make you, or destroy you. She is still one of the most spectacular competitors this year. She also needs to improve her swimsuit performance.
Panama and Philippines stay on the Top 5 after clean, well performed presentations. Both have always been neatly dressed and glamorous for the events. Will Philippines get their so dreamed back-to-back, or will Panama get that second crown (and on stage this time!)?
In the Top 10 we have France and Australia, remaining consistent, so their performance in the preliminaries can bring them all the way to the upper level, or leave them in a semi-final spot. Venezuela is obviously the biggest favorite for Filipinos, bagging special awards and getting all the applauses and attention whenever she attends an event. Our judges still have mixed feelings about her when compared to former winners such as Dayana Mendoza and Gabriela Isler. But of course, Mariam is Miss Venezuela, so she is expected to be all the way up there. Indonesia and Thailand remain on the 9th and 10th spots respectively, having incredible support and looking impeccable in every event, but they need to bring their game up at this stage of the competition.
Brazil fell one notch and Singapore, Argentina and Chile are new additions to our list. Peru and Canada stay in the group of 15 possibilities.
A lot of controversy was generated regarding the bodies of some of the contestants and fans were the first ones to “fat-shame” them. Do not forget that IMG is currently overhauling the pageant and by bringing Ashley Graham (the world’s most successful plus-size model) into the mix, they are ensuring that Miss Universe respects beauty in all shapes and sizes!
There have been rumors of a change in the format, some say Top 16, others say Top 12, but while this is to be confirmed, our List will keep the current style.
Remember that our List of Favorites is for entertainment only, our main goal is for entertainment as we have been doing this for the past 18 years; we enjoy doing it and we hope our visitors enjoy it as well. The pageant is to be enjoyed and not be the reason for engaging in endless fighting and insulting. May your favorites make you proud, winning or not!
Next Update: 1/27 (after preliminaries)
