Biology Student from Brazil, new Miss EARTH 2009

Miss Earth

Larissa Ramos, a 20-year old Biology student from Manaus, Brazil, was crowned Miss Earth 2009 during the 9th edition of this popular pageant held in Boracay, Philippines, on November 22nd.

The 1.78 m beauty, who is currently studying at the Universidade Federal do Amazonas, will spend her year working for environmental causes.

1st runner-up and Miss Air was pre-pageant favorite Sandra Seifert from the Philippines, who bagged the titles of Best in Swimsuit and Best in Long Gown. Although a back to back victory was possible, most experts assured that Ms. Seifert would end up in the runner-up spot. Last year’s winner is from the Philippines.

The 2nd runner-up and Miss Water was the also-favorite Jessica Barboza from Venezuela.  Living up to the reputation that Venezuelan beauties go to win every contest, the beauty won the title of Miss Water.

3rd runner-up was Alejandra Echevarria from Spain, whose performance on stage fascinated fans and experts. alike.

Completing the Top 8 finalists were the contestants from Thailand, Martinique, Colombia and Poland.

While in the Top 16 semi finalists, were delegates from Paraguay, Singapore, Northern Ireland, Korea, India, Georgia, France and South Africa.

80 beauties competed in this edition of the contest.

Congratulations to all winners!

To All who knows or friends of Sandra Seifert here, please encourage her to join again the Bb. Pilipinas on 2011, she will definitely do well on Miss Universe or Miss World..

Sandra should have won even though I was kinda thinking what the whole world would say if Philippines won again the crown for Miss Earth. Many people who have witnessed the pageant last night how well Sandra performed and represented Philippines. I guess in this case the organizers dont want a “back to back” issue just like what happened in Ms Universe.

I hope next year Carousel would invite more foreign judges than our locales to avoid the case that many would think that the judges are being biased to Sandra ( or to Ms Philippines ) if say she did win Miss Earth last night. This is an international pageant and I’m thinking why most judges are filipinoes?

I hope too that they return the original format next year though the final question is something fresh I was hoping that there would be a final four selection which makes it more thrilling when it comes to announcing the first runner up rather than choosing from the final 8 candidates. Miss Brazil dont look that surprised to me ( or even the audience ) I was expecting a Karla Henry reaction :)

DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT HAPPENNED TO MISS CUBA? WAS SHE THAT BAD…..? I WOULD HAVE THINK , AT LEAST IN THE 16TH FINALIST…..CAN ANYONE THAT SAW THE PAGEANT TELL ME A LITTLE ABOUT THIS?

Miss Thailand, being called out as the first finalist in the pageant was a thrilling part for most of our Thai and South East Asian constituents. Miss Thailand’s beauty and overall packaging is truly enchanting, soulfully inviting. That is why she was one of the Filipino crowds’ favourites. Her charm and sweet personality speaks as she sway herself on stage, perfected with that very exotically asian smile! True, she has lived the “land of smile” identity. Rujinan’s entrance into the final 8 was a worthy call, should she not enveloped with fears and a little bit nervousness (which was really evident), and should she spoke eloquently on the subject she was tasked to convey on. The whole Thailand would have been rejoicing now. Such beauty shouldn’t be wasted! I’d like to see her battle it out in future pageants! She is another force to reckon with.

In terms of clarity and sensibility of message deliveries during the final round, Venezuela highlighted her knowlege on that subject. Poland gave a powerful statement. The Philippines fluently and vocally advocated her answers in a very realistic and encouraging way. Not to forget Colombia’s striking delivery, too. These four women have definitely marked their place in the four most coveted crowns, should they based their judging solely in the Q and A portion.

After all, I am happy for the Carousel Production for compromisingly picking Miss Brazil as the winner. Don’t get me wrong. She has the beauty, body and passion for what she does. Miss Philippines this year is a waste ending up as the first runner, when she knows she could have the crown for herself.

Venezuela’s gown was a disaster, Brazil’s gown was so stunning, Philippines’ gown truly a Mother Earth style, and Spain’s gown like Karla Henry preliminary gown last year and her hair Gona Dragusha & Zana Krasniqi Kosovo look.

    Dear bq,

Sandra indeed gave the best answer. And we notice she was consistent all throughout the night – from swimsuit (we love her buffed figure), evening gown (she was elegant!) and interview (she showed her depth and exceptional communication skills)

If Sandra were declared Miss Earth 2009, it would not hurt the image of Miss Earth Foundation at all, because she delivered – and delivered well.

7 is the “Happy number”. Karla Henry was 7th on the final GB Leaderboard and won the Miss Earth title in 2008. This year Larissa Ramos has been 7th on the final GB Leaderboard but she has finished first.

  • Congratulations to the winners. All of you are deserves to win the title of Miss Earth 2009. KUDOS and MABUHAY.

I witness the final pageant night in Boracay I think Ms. Philippines deserves to have their 2nd crown (BACK TO BACK) win. But if that could happen “ITS LIKE COOKING”

  • jemar

    Congrats’s Miss Brazil..
    Miss Philippines does her job
really well but sad to say that
the crown will not be given to her
even though she really nailed the
best answer in Q&A..(there will be
a big issue if she will win the crown
which is really for her..but Im happy
that still she managed to be the second best..

    Mabuhay Ms. Sandra Seifert!!!

Overall, this was a classy, elegant, and tasteful pageant. I expected either Sandra or Jessica to win, but I think that Larissa will carry the title with dignity into the next decade. I was happy to see Singapore and Great Britain (thanks to Miss Northern Ireland) place @ Miss Earth for the first time. I particularly found the swimsuit competition using “Cover Girl” by RuPaul to be amusing. Next year, I hope to see more delegates (at least 90) and hopefully a new locale. Maybe Brazil can host in 2010.

Beautiful girl Larissa Ramos rightfully won the title of Miss Earth with the Amazon being the biggest rainforest that is fast dwindling and needs the world’s concern to preserve it and what better way than to have Miss Brazil represent the earth!!!! Larissa’s body is naturally tanned, with those long legs and fantastic tone & proportion!!!! Larissa should have bagged the swimsuit competition, her runway walk very professional, and her face is very beautiful, personality & presence is star model quality, and she is a biology degree holder…a smart woman too! Larissa deserves the crown of Miss Earth 2009. I think Miss USA should have been a finalist, Miss Guam is stunning too, Miss Korea is statuesque and great top world quality model. Miss Thailand stands out….and I am disappointed that Miss Korea, USA, CUBA, Guam didn’t make it to the finals…however MisS Earth Larissa Ramos is THE RIGHT CHOICE!

Finally a wonderful winner, after two years in a row having to deal with Philippinas and half-Philippinas that did not pursue enough beauty to carry an international beauty title. I think by ellecting Miss Brazil as Miss Earth, this pageant has just saved its image and boosted its reputation amongst fans, specially those who couldn’t quite swallow the previous winners. There are beauty pageant fans all over the world, not only in the Philippines and Venezuela, so it’s interesting to value all types of beauty. Either way, the 1st runner up was also gorgeous and if she had won last year or the year before, I’m sure she would be an amazing Miss Earth.

  • CharlieD

Well!… I´m really delighted with this new Miss Earth.. Larissa is stunning, beautyful, with a marvelous body… I adore her for this title… that exotic beauty, the place from where she comes (Amazonas) and her great personality made her triumph… so, congratulations to all brazilians and to all the earth for this wonderful queen…
and also I´m very happy with the excellent perfomance of Venezuela´s Jessica Barboza, a barbie doll type… really beutyful and charming, but not the type of girl for this pageant… Spain was also stunning… I´m happy with all the finalist and semifinalist… I´m happy with the results… this was a great pageant this year…

  • here we go again

People are never satisfied… Congratulations Brazil!!!

  • bonnie

Miss Brazil is beautiful and I am delighted for her.

Once again though, the winner is from the Americas which makes six out of the past seven years.

I think it is a shame that a lot of fabulous European and African women are always overlooked and think it is about time that the Miss Earth organisers played fair and started to look further afield.

However, good luck to Larissa I am sure she will make a great Miss Earth.

  • blackclover

Base on the final interview only Phil and Venezuela gave the best answer, Brazil even did not justify her answer and if I’m going to choose Venezuela really nailed it and should have won but it must be judge on a whole impact so they choose Brazil… which was a surprise, but anyway congratulations Brazil for claiming the 2nd Miss Earth for your country.

  • marc

it was so bad that brazil won, i mean other delegates are far better such as colombia and poland but i really really knew that if the whole pageant world is watching philippines is the treu winner of the title ( think that she will do better in mis universe earlier this year)

  • Ton

    Parabéns Miss Brasil!!!!

  • bq

After Philippines’ answer, I could smell a back-to-back win. I was afraid that if it will be the case, the nitwits in the pageant world will crucify Miss Earth. Alas!!! She was named Miss Air (although I honestly think she gave the best answer). Afterwhich, I thought Colombia would be it. Well, Brazil’s not bad. She’s beautiful and I wish her well. Congratulations to Miss Brazil… The new Mis Earth! Good Luck!!!
