Miss Dominican Republic Universe 2007
Massiel
Taveras, Miss Santiago de los Caballeros, was
elected Miss Dominican Republic Universe 2007
during a televised event that took place at the Teatro
La Fiesta. A 22-year old student of Interior Design,
Massiel stands 1.70 m (5'7") in height and will
represent her country at the upcoming Miss Universe
pageant in Mexico.
The
1st runner-up was Miss Salcedo (Marianne Cruz); 2nd
runner-up was Miss Duarte (Sheila Garcia), 3rd runner-up
was Miss Altagracia (Janna Montas) and the 4th runner-up
was Miss Sanchez Ramirez (Yessenia Aybar).
The
contestants from the Dominican Community in New York,
Barahona, Santiago Rodriguez, San Cristobal and Azua
completed the Top 10.
Aida
de la Cruz (San Cristobal) won the Miss Photogenic Award,
while Janna Montas (Altagracia) won the Best Fantasy
Costume Award.
Miss
Puerto Rico Universe, Uma Blasini, attended the event.
Earlier
in the week, the Miss Dominican Republic Universe pageant
was in the middle of controversy when one of the contestants
(Ioanna Giouzzepos) was disqualified for not having
the required paperwork that certified her as a Dominican
citizen.
Massiel
was crowned by Mia Taveras, last year's Miss Dominican
Republic Universe and the current Srta. Continente Americano
and Miss Global Cities.
