Miss Zambia 2009
Livingstone, ZAMBIA - University of Zambia (UNZA) student, Winfridah Mofu (right), has been crowned Miss Zambia 2008 out of 15 other beauties in a hot contest staged at Livingstone’s Zambezi Sun Hotel on Saturday night.
Winfridah, who is in her fourth and last year of library and information studies and economics, a double major, said her victory was a gift from God because all the contestants had been excellent in their performance.
In an interview after the colourful event, sponsored by 20 organisations, notably Shell, City Health, Multi-choice Zambia Limited, Sun International Zambia and Hone FM, the beauty said she relied on the support from the people to succeed in her modeling career.
Winfridah was followed by Musunga Sue Chuzu as first princess and Sekwila Mumba as second princess.
Jubilation filled the Zambezi Sun hall when she received the crown from outgoing Miss Zambia, Precious Mumbi, as other contestants also showed out their broad smiles in marvel.
Winfridah said she had won other crowns before such as Miss Unza 2005, Miss Intercontinental 2007 first princess and represented Zambia at the top model beauty contest held in Egypt in January.
The Miss Zambia, whose hobbies include reading, dancing, singing and travelling, said each contest she had taken part in, contributed greatly to her current status and achievement and made her go as far she had gone.
Winfridah also thanked people for their support, especially former Miss Zambia, Elizabeth Mwanza, who was instrumental in the organisation of this year’s event.
And Miss Zambia coordinator, Elizabeth Mwanza, said the contest was tight as all the girls exhibited intelligence and beauty.
She said it was difficult to tell who could win because there had been no poor performance.
