Thuy Lam, a singer-turned-actress from Thai Binh, won the Hoa Hau Hoan Vu (Miss Universe Vietnam) contest held on May 31st. She will now act as the host contestant during the 2008 Miss Universe pageant to take place in Nha Trang next July.

The 1st and 2nd runner-ups were Vo Hoang Yen and Duong Truong Thien Ly, who will represent Vietnam in contest such as Miss Earth and Miss International.

Thuy Lam is 1.72 m tall and has stunning measurements (88-60-90).

The 21-year-old singer, whose real name is Nguyen Thuy Trang, is well-known for singing in girl band TyMyTy and has released her first solo album “Thuy Lam 18.”

The sophomore of Ho Chi Minh City’s College of Culture and Arts, who is fluent in English and German, has also acted in several TV series including Kieu nu va dai gia (Beauties and Big Cheeses).

A small controversy erupted in the media regarding the participation of Hoang Ngoc, Supermodel of Vietnam 2004. She had already participated in the Miss Universe contest in Quito, Ecuador, in 2004, where she failed to place in the Top 15. That time, the contest was won by Australia's Jennifer Hawkins.

Rules and regulations specify that a national delegate can compete in Miss Universe only one time.

20 women competed in the pageant, held at the Vinpearl resort in Nha Trang.
