you have an addictive simply beautiful face, the more one looks at you, the more beauty ,you radiate. At last we get away from the typical stereotype – No surgery / no blue eyes/ no blonde hair/ no dental surgery/ no thick lips/ no nose job – thanks for making people realise that there are other types of beauty out there. Kaiane use you position to bring good to the world. May God bless you along the way!

In the featured photo above, Miss Gibraltar looks like a chaperone next to Miss Mexico. There’s no doubt Perla is so much more Miss World-like.

  • I’m liking miss gibraltar more each time i see her. there’s a bit of criticism implying that mw is british based and gibraltar is british. don’t remember the same when puerto rico has done well in miss universe.
pasquale you implied that there is a reason barbados didn’t make the finals. go on spill the beans.
more surprised by who didn’t make it. there were fantastic entrants from africa and the caribbean with only sierra leone and martinique (both deserved) making the finals.

  • Bjoern

    Hi Pasquale.

I Just want to convey that it feels good that a non-traditional territory/country won a presigious international beauty pageant.
This is something for small state/territories and poorer countries not to lose hope of gaining the world stage.

I want to see smaller nations taking it all, such as this, to inspire others to participate in pageants as well. For each citizen of the world to see and decipher the relevance of pageants in influencing people and using such as a platform to inform and share a helping hand.

Gibraltar’s winning is an awakening ~ that we do not need to overhyped ourselves, that we do not to cosmetically alter the natural gift of God and that we do not need to have a huge monetary investment to win a major beauty title.

Gibraltar was simple natural and sparkled like a beauty of a farcical nymph on a rainforest. Look at her when the crown was placed in her head! Isn’t she outstanding?

I hope that this winning of a small state/territory would inspire more small states and th whole pageant world.

In the next few years, I hope I would see East Timor, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Palau, Kiribati, Somalia, Eritrea, Equatorial Guines and other unpopular states to stand in the stage of Miss World and Miss Universe.

Hey Bjoern. I want to say that although she was not my pick, or even in my Top 7 (she was my number #11), I think it is wonderful she could do this and this makes me happy about pageantry AGAIN! I feel propud of Miss World. Thanks for your contributions. What a well written statement. – Pasquale

I’m very happy for Gibraltar but sad for Martinique, she made a big effort and it’s not fair.

But darlin, dont you understand? It’s not fair for 111 other girls as well! – Pasquale

OK.

  • JL

    I agree with you, Diva.

I’m from Venezuela, and I really really like France and South Africa, even since Miss Universe.
They was my favorites and, obviously, Venezuela too hehehe

I was really hoping for France or South Africa to win the pageant and I am really sad about that, but Gibraltar is good too :D

  • NHD

I am really surprised when miss Gibranta took the title. Firstly, I didn’t recognize any thing special. But now, I definitely cheer her. She is beautiful, perfect body and I love her gown so much. It likes the evening gown of Elisa Najera at MU 08, white, shining, smooth and totally spectacular.

Miss VN, although didn’t enter top 7, I still preciate what she has done. Being the Queen of Asia is the best result of all VN’s contestants at this time.

This year is not a good year for Asian. I feel sad about this. And a lot of surprises have happened, esspecially in MU and MW.

VIETNAM IS NOT THE QUEEN OF ASIA!!! Korea is the Queen of Asia, no matter what you tell yourself!

Miss Gibralter’s Gown WAS NOT modeled on Elisa Najera gown but on Miss Ecuador World 2007’s Gown! – ARRGGGHHHH! Pasquale

3 black candidates or mixed black race will emerge as Miss Universe, Miss Earth and Miss TQI next year. Miss World crown will go to a South American country. USA will be Miss Universe.

  • peter

I am happy that Gibraltar won the MW title. I would have prefered Mexico since I am latino but lets face it if we look at winners just in the past decade only ONE from america has won. We do not do well in MW the same as other continents dont do well in MU. It is what it is.

  • Hey Pasquele,do u know Jamaica’s final placing?

    No, sorry!

  • Diva

I am still baffled by this result of this contest. The 2 runner ups looked absolutely stunning. I don’t hate Gibraltar, but she looked more like the girl next door rather than a winner of a grand slam pageant. I know it’s good to see an underdog country wins, but this is stretching it a bit toooooo far. Of the 4 grand grand slam winners this year, she looks like a plain jane. Anyway, good luck to her reign, and cheers to the people of her country for this achievement.

I was really hoping for France or South Africa to win the pageant. We haven’t seen a woman of color win for a long time now, and they would have been the ideal delegates (including Barbados). Chloe & Tatum, you are the best!

I am quite happy with the number of Asians in the semis – I just love Korea, she’s like one of the actresses in the dramas. I would have loved to see Malaysia up there as well.

For me, the past 2 years title holders are two of the most elegant & pretty winners so far: Zhang & Ksenia. Maybe Miss World got “superpower fatigue”, therefore choosing a winner from a small territory.

As for the pageant, the production value made me yawn. I hope someone electrifies this pageant, as it looked so old-fashioned and bland. What use is having the most number of delegates when you cannot showcase them properly.

Overall, this year is the year of the runner-ups. The most stunning women were relegated to runner up positions. Well, it seems the pageants this year was trying to shock viewers, to create some controversies for people to talk about in forums.

    • DIM

Totally agree!!! Zhang & Ksenia were real beauty queens. Very sadly that the beauty pageant “Miss World” has turned to competition “Girl of the Year”.

    • ChoCho

They could have enough time to showcase them properly.
The talent performances of Canada, Sierra Leone, Korea and Norway took time and were not really necessary.
I liked the dance of the nations.
We can’t expect that all the peagents resemble MU.
Although I agree that MU is more fast paced, the choice of Montag and Flo Rida last year was not good at all.

  • Tarcy Korsen

I am so pleased Miss Gibrolta won she is not a plastic barbie doll – no plastic boobs, lips, and nose just a wholesome natural girl and very humble – she deserved to win.

  • Garh

FANTASTIC that Gibralta won MW09- I haven’t had a chance to read alot that has been written! One of my dark horses did come in and WIN on the final night. I am so happy, she so deserves it. She nailed it in the last question though I had a hard choice to pick MW on the day watching it as I thought Panama/Canada both gave awesome answers too and I had placed Panama MW,Gibralta 2nd and of course I got it right that South Africa would be 3rd. Again well done Gibraltar, the judges got it right and YES it is the overall package that always counts for MW, that is why it is still the best contest overall.

  • thewatcher

“Top 3 finalists are completely deserving, especially Miss Gilbratar. She is always happy and shining. She causes everyone around her to feel that happiness. And that is the quality a Miss World must possess.” said Huong Giang, Miss Vietnam, in an interview with the Vietnamese press right after the coronation of Miss Gilbratar as Miss World 2009.

I am happy to see Miss Vietnam in TOP 16 but I thought she deserved to go further. I would prefer to see Miss Vietnam in TOP 7 instead of Miss Canada. Miss Canada is obviously talented but beauty-wise, Miss Vietnam surpasses Miss Canada.

Miss Gilbratar is natural and deserving. She was the surprise that everyone expected, so to speak! Congratulations to the new Miss World 2009!

I am truly pleased to see Gibraltar winning the crown, though people may suspect that because it is a British colony and Julia (and MWO is UK based), so she is being favored for the crown. And I agree with all the other bloggers that there are other contestants who deserve to win the crown, but again BEAUTY IS IN THE EYES OF THE BEHOLDER, and maybe that finals night, the majority of the judges found Gibraltar sparkled (or stood out) more than the rest.

Another reason why I am pleased to see Gibraltar won is because this girl projects natural beauty and pleasant to look at. I am not saying she is the MOST BEAUTIFUL but at least no artificial face/body surgery to enhance beauty is seen in this girl. I believe Natural Beauty should be given more weight than contestants who did beauty enhancement jobs on their bodies.

And finally, it seems there are always disgruntled beauty contest afficionados complaining the entertainment values and TV production. I have seen people criticizing Miss Earth 2009 hosts and stage design in the Philippines. This time it is Miss World 2009. I am just concerned where are all the production values of these beauty contests heading for in the future?

Pasquale, what can you comment on my observations above? Do you think beauty contests can still be relevant in the next 10 years in terms of entertainment values?

I think beauty contests MAY be relevant in the next 10 years, However, I find you are definately relevant in the next 10 years. I rarly find writing such as your. Please contact me at PasqualeGB@gmail.com about writing for GlobalBeauties.com. You are a rare gem…. – Pasquale

    • Pedrito Lateriz

Thank you so much Pasquale for bestowing me such a great honor to have considered writing for GlobalBeauties.com and also your kind words. This is my first time to post my comments on beauty contests and I was so elated and excited!

I was not able to watch MW 2009 because in my country, all the TV networks are no longer interested to broadcast (maybe due to expensive franchise fee or poor ratings/viewership which means less sponsors for TV advertisements). But not for Miss Universe, Miss Earth and Miss International – these are shown in my country.

Anyway, the only way for me to find out who are the winners of MW 2009 is through news posted on the internet, YouTube and of course GB (Critical Beauty and Missiology.Org also post the results but I like GB website, BETTER than CB or Missiology). There I found out it is Miss Gibraltar who captured their first international crown.

As I read all the blogs posted on GB, I find it very amusing and entertaining how each blog reflects the personal sentiments of every beauty contest fans all over the world, defending their country representative and sometimes criticizing others as well.

And GB is the only platform that you can find a very well balance point of view when comes to analyzing beauty contests, as well as having the most complete coverage, capturing each details as the contest unfolds day by day leading to the coronation night.

Thank you so much Pasquale and more power to you and GLOBAL BEAUTIES!

Thanks. I can’t believe they show Miss World in the US live now and not in the Philippines! Amazing! Take care – Pasquale

  • Pageant follower from CapeTown

The pageant should select the semi finalist & they should then parade in their swim wear & evening gowns in the live broadcast. then get eliminated…. an interview phase then a final question to get an overall opion / look at the girls… Please do something about the presenter for next year…. I’m from South Africa & think her answer was well rehearsed & of the others questions so irrelevant… congratulations to all .. but lets hope next year the production team will come up with something better… BTW… MIss Vietnam… is absolutely Beautiful……

  • L. Christie

Im still stunned that BARBADOS didnt win. DID they realise the mistake & tried to make amends by giving BARBADOS the Caribbean QUEEN TITLE? Im trying to understand why Martinique who was a semi finalist was not chosen as Queen. I wish MISS WORLD was more transparent, I think FRANCHISE HOLDERS need to speak up, and speak OUT.

OK, one point at a time. Barbados was our pick to win, but we eventually found out why she did not place, so chill. However she was in 17th place. s to your second question about Caribbean Queen. Yes, it is strange, I understand….But, starting this year, it is because Martinique, St, Martin, Mayotte, Tahiti & Guadaloupe ALSO participated in the Miss France contestant and they are “Departments” of France and not independant colonies or commomwealths, like Puerto Rico, (Aruba, Bonaire Curacao, St. Maarten), Hong Kong (in its day), I could go on…. – Pasquale (it took me about 20 minutes to wrap my head around the concept and that was with the help of Wikipedia)

  • Pasquele when are we goin to have MISS GRAND SLAM 2009!!!!M waitin anxiously!

  • Mogotsi

Get over it its just a beauty pageant.
Had south africa won. Everyone would blame the FIFA world Cup.
Had mexico won. Everyone would blame plastic surgery.
Had vietnam won. Everyone would blame next hot country.
Had india won. Everyone would blame the British empire.
Had England won. Everyone would blame the Olympics games.
Had Russia won. Everyone would blame favoritism.
Had china won. Everyone would blame a rising superpower.
Had Sierra Leone won. Everyone would blame African home advantage.

  • Justin

    HI!

I don’t really understand how can Miss World reach two million audience in worldwide because there is totally no TV station broadcasting in my home country. I watched the event through online, the production is boring, lack of excitement and mysterious result. The only thing i can feel good about miss World is the largest number of participants. In term of production, i still prefer Miss Universe, at least we know the process of selection.

    • Bi

      I totally agree with you
i prefer miss universe because it is more transparent than miss world
as least miss universe show us the presentation show, and how the judges voted in the ss comp. and eg comp.. However, in miss world, after the top 16 is revealed, top 7 are immediately chosen, how can the judges vote and what are they judging on?

  • blackclover

wow, Mexico looks so like Megan Fox, I like her to win. I hope she joins Ms.Mexixo Earth again and win! I know she’ll rock Ms.Earth 2010

  • miss martinique should be caribbean queen as she was highest placed from the caribbean. she represented martinique not france anymore than gibraltar represented britain.

  • DIM

Two months ago I wrote on the GB forum “I think that Europe will win again this year”. But I think Miss Gibraltar has not deserved to be the winner. She is a pretty girl-next-door but not a beauty queen. She cannot even sit like a queen on her throne )))
And what a tame party! Freak show (((
Girls from the Top 7 were nice but their gowns were dreadful. Mexico looked like a pregnant woman. South Africa’s gown was “The Mummy Returns” and Canada’s dress was “a la Stefania Fernandez”.
And I think, that the most robbed delegates of this year are France (no comments) and Vietnam. Miss Vietnam Universe 2009 looks like a transsexual but Huong Giang, Miss Vietnam World 2009 is really amazing, feminine and charming.
At the same time my congratulations to Gibraltar!!!

  • Jorge

    Horrible! Mexico was robbed!

  • itzel

I do not understand why Mexico did not win. She is sooo beautiful, and her answer was great.
