Miss Grand International 2017: Crowning Photos and Trivia
Last night, 27 year old Maria Jose Lora won Peru's first Miss Grand International title. She is the 5th Miss Grand International and has joined the sisterhood of MGI winners from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Australia and Indonesia. It's Peru's first Grand Slam win since they won Miss World 2004 and their third placement in total at Miss Grand.
It's 5/5 so far for Venezuela, Puerto Rico, Thailand and Australia at Miss Grand International. While Puerto Rico and Australia can claim one title, Venezuela reached the top 5 for the first time and now has their highest placement (1st runner-up) so far. Thailand has reached the top 5 twice with a second runner-up spot being their highest placement. Australia also has three top 5 placements. The same goes for Puerto Rico who got their second consecutive 3rd runner-up placement last night.
GO BIG OR GO HOME
The Philippines has been doing incredibly well at Miss Grand. They have placed 4 out of 5 times and when they do place, they have been going all the way to the top 5. They achieved their second best placement last night (2nd runner-up), only beaten so far by last year's gorgeous runner-up, Nicole Cordoves, who hosted the event last night.
The Ukraine, Brazil and Mexico have only missed the cut once in their 5 outings at Miss Grand.
THIRD TIME LUCKY
Apart from Peru, Indonesia earned their 3rd placement last night.
The Czech Republic achieved their best placement at Miss Grand International (so far) last night with their 5th place finished. They had previously also placed in 2015. Vietnam's top 10 finish was also their best result and second placement at MGI. The same goes for Costa Rica, India, the Netherlands, China and Russia.
Laos debuted and it was beginner's luck (or really good preparation and an outstanding delegate) for them as they also bagged their first placement. South Sudan and Paraguay also placed for the very first time at this pageant.
