Venezuela wins 7th Miss International title as favorite Edymar Martinez is crowned

TOKYO, November 5th — Edymar Martinez Blanco, a 20-year old student of tourism and professional model, was crowned Miss International 2015 during the 55th edition of the contest, held at the Grand Prince Hotel Takanawa in Tokyo with the participation of 70 beauties from around the world.

Martinez was always one of the big favorites for the title and was predicted by the Global Beauties’ leaderboard to take the title tonight.  She now became the 7th Miss International winner for Venezuela, joining Nina Sicilia (1985), Consuelo Adler (1997), Vivian Urdaneta (2000), Goizeder Azua (2003), Daniela Di Giacomo (2006) and Elizabeth Mosquera (2010).

The 1st runner-up was also favorite Jennifer Valle, Miss Honduras; Miss Kenya (Eunice Onyango) came as 2nd runner-up; the 3rd runner-up was Miss Vietnam (Thuy Van) and 4th runner-up was USA (Lindsay Becker).

Completing the Top 10 semi-finalists were the delegates from Brazil, Mexico, Philippines, Thailand and United Kingdom.

For the first time in the history of the pageant, Continental awards were given: Miss International Asia was Korea, Miss International Africa is Kenya, Miss International Americas is Aruba, Miss International Europe is Portugal, and Miss International Oceania is Miss Hawaii.

Japan won the Best National Costume Award, while Venezuela won the Best Figure, and Philippines was elected as Miss Best Dresser.

Miss International is a pageant with many years of existence, a long tradition and wonderful cultural activities; however, the gala ceremony left a lot to be desired in terms of production.  In the year 2015 with so much fierce competition from other events, Miss International should consider upgrading their final show and put more attention in the event’s details, timing and entertainment, considering is the biggest presentation card they have.

As for the winner, congratulations!
