Philippines is “Country of the Year” for the 2nd consecutive year
It was an exciting race between Philippines and Indonesia, but with a bit of an edge, Philippines ended 2016 ahead and was named Country of the Year for the second consecutive time by Global Beauties. Its representatives placed in all 5 Grand Slam contests, having conquered the Miss International title, placing 2nd in Miss Grand International, having finalists in both Miss World and Miss Universe, and a quarter-finalist in Miss Supranational.
Indonesia came very close to being called Country of the Year after an amazing year: it started out with a Miss Grand International victory, its first Grand Slam title ever. Than the emerging beauty pageant power placed 3rd in Miss International and Miss World, had a semi-finalist in Miss Supranational and a quarter-finalist in Miss Universe.
Final scores: Philippines 20.30 x 19.40 Indonesia. What a tight race!
With the Miss World winner and a Miss Grand International finalist, Puerto Rico took the bronze medal, followed by Thailand and USA tied in 4th place.
Completing the Top 10, all with great performances, were France, Australia, India, Dominican Republic and Kenya. The African country had never reached this far. In 2015 it had a Miss International 2nd runner-up, and now in 2016 Kenya had finalists in both Miss World and Miss Universe. Amazing!
Regional winners were:
Country of the Year Asia: Philippines
Country of the Year Caribbean: Puerto Rico
Country of the Year Americas: USA
Country of the Year Europe: France
Country of the Year Oceania: Australia
Country of the Year Africa: Kenya
Congratulations to Philippines and to all nations which performed so well in 2016!!
