Nobody could imagine what would happen right after Paraguay´s Clara Sosa was declared the winner of Miss Grand International 2018, in Yangon, Myanmar: she fainted, falling on the ground! After a few minutes of dispair, the new MGI was able to recover and was then crowned by outgoing queen Maria Jose Lora, o Peru.

Paraguay was one of 7 countries to receive a “crown alert” from GB, which means that she was indeed one of the favorites for the crown.

The #1 favorite for the crown, India´s Meenakshi Chaudhary, was the 1st runner-up, followed by Indonesia´s Nadia Purwoko as 2nd runner-up. Puerto Rico placed as 3rd runner-up for the third consecutive year, this time with Nicole Colón, while Japan´s Haruka Oda was the 4th runner-up.

One of the biggest suprises of the night was Venezuela´s non-inclusion in the Top 5. She stopped as a Top 10 semi-finalist, next to Mexico, Spain, Dominican Republic and Vietnam, who advanced after winning the Popular Vote.

Top 20 quarter-finalists were Brazil, Russia, Cuba, Australia, Kazakhstan, Costa Rica, Thailand, Peru, Sweden, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.

Other major upsets were Thailand failing to advance to the Top 10, and beautiful Philippines staying out of the Top 20.

In overall terms, the results were fair.
