  • After two brilliant Grand Slam victories in 2000, India made its most significant move up to that date, up 2 notches, finally moving into the top 10. Israel, after 50 years, was no longer among the top 10 “powerhouses”, which means that India also took the lead among Asian nations;

Well, India not only closed the last millennium as the Country of the Year: it also opened the new one!

Lara Dutta was the undisputed Miss Universe winner, in Cyprus, while Priyanka Chopra did the same in the Maldives and London, winning the 5th Miss World crown for her country! India also placed in the Top 15 of Miss International that year.

Venezuela, with the Miss International 2000 winner and a 2nd place in Miss Universe, came 2nd, while Colombia was 3rd.
